Jalen Sullinger goes off for 25 points as the Cardinals defeat their crosstown rival

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Thomas Worthington avenged last year’s late season loss to Worthington Kilbourne on Saturday evening, defeating the Wolves by a final score of 56-46.

The Cardinals were led by senior guard Jalen Sullinger who scored a game high 25 points. Sullinger was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line, with nine of those makes coming in the fourth quarter.

Also in double figures for Thomas Worthington was forward Tyrese Hughey with 13 points. The Cardinals looked to Hughey late in the game and the senior stepped up, scoring two big baskets that helped give Thomas Worthington control.

In the loss, Worthington Kilbourne senior Ian Schupp excelled, scoring 16 points and was dominant all throughout the night.Mitchell Tomasek also reached double figures for the Wolves with 10 points.

Both teams got off to a sluggish start offensively, primarily due to their intensity on defense. The game was tied at two-all halfway through the first quarter. Sullinger got off to a hot start, scoring eight of his team’s first 10 points. Schupp also had a great start, throwing down a big slam in transition for his team’s first points of the game. Worthington Kilbourne jumped out to a seven point lead in the second quarter, however an 11-4 run for the Cardinals to end the half tied the game up.

The third quarter was more back and forth action as both teams traded baskets. The Wolves took a one point lead into the final quarter.

It was all Cards in the fourth quarter however, as Thomas Worthington outscored Worthington Kilbourne 21-10 in the final frame.

Thomas Worthington grabbed the lead with less than four minutes to go in the game and would not give it up the rest of the way. Through outstanding free throw shooting and a clutch three-point play from Sullinger, Thomas Worthington would coast in the final minute to the huge home victory.

Thomas Worthington (12-4) are winners of 10 in a row and will return to the floor Tuesday as they travel to Olentangy Orange. Worthington Kilbourne (10-3) will host Big Walnut on Tuesday as they look to bounce back from Saturday night’s defeat.
