Caitlin Splain nailed 14 three's and scored 45 points last night

POWELL, Ohio -- 14 three-pointers made, 45 points accounted for, one win and one state record.

That's what Olentangy Liberty senior guard Caitlin Splain did last night. How did you spend your Friday night?

Erupting for 45 points by absolutely catching fire from three, Splain did the unthinkable as she led Olentangy Liberty to a blowout win over OCC-Central foe Olentangy Orange.

Breaking a record that has stood since 1992 when Marlene Stollings hit 13 triples for Beaver Eastern in a win over Latham Western, Splain simply could not be stopped last night.

Being in company with Stolling is certainly fantastic company to be in, as she is by far the leading scorer in state history, tallying 3514 career points, the only girl in Ohio to ever surpass 3000.

Splain got the fun started early on last night as she buried five triples in the first quarter to help the Patriots build a 22-8 lead that they never surrendered.

After hitting just one triple in the second quarter, the senior guard exploded in the third when she connected on six more to bring her total to 12 triples for the game, tallying 37 points through three frames.

People on social media began to take notice of the showing at this point, but it did not stop Splain from continuing to dominate.

Finishing things off in style, Splain hit two more three-pointers in the fourth to secure the record after connecting on her only two-point field goal of the game to start the frame.

Although the game of basketball is continuing to favor the three ball more and more, we expect this record to stand for sometime as nobody has connected on more than 12 in a game since 2012.

An outstanding talent for Olentangy Liberty, Splain has led the Patriots all season and has them in a groove right now.

They are on a five game win streak with their last three wins coming over league opponents as they look to rally the second half of the season and possibly win an OCC-Central title.

After scoring 70 points in her last two games, we hope Splain does not slow down anytime soon as we plan to check out Olentangy Liberty soon.

Regardless of what she does for the rest of the season, however, the senior guard etched her name in the history books with a once in a lifetime performance last night.
