COLUMBUS, Ohio -- When you're the son of a longtime coach in a program and play varsity from the minute you step foot into high school, you've got a lot to live up to.

Living up to and even exceeding people around the programs expectations for him over the last four seasons, Grove City senior guard Brock Waits reaped the benefit of countless hours of hard work and dedication last night when he surpassed 1000 career points by dropping 33 in a 73-50 win over Westland.

Doing what he does best, the senior nailed six triples in the contest and got things going early on by scoring 21 in the first half to help the Greyhounds build a double digit lead.

One of the better unsigned senior guards in the area, Waits can score from all three levels, is a hard-nosed defender and has an extremely high IQ. When he gets hot he is one of the deadliest shooters in the area, as he has serious range from deep both off the catch and off the dribble.

Wherever he lands after graduation, we are sure Waits will make an impact as he is a hard worker with a great understanding of the game.

After playing a key role off the bench for Grove City as a freshman, he stepped into the starting lineup the year after and has led the program ever since. After joining the 1k club last night, another feat possibly awaits as the senior has a chance to become the all-time scoring leader at Grove City by the end of the season.

While he highlights this edition of stars of the night, there were several other excellent performances in the area last night including two other players surpassing the 1000 point milestone, so let's get right into it.

Preston Crabtree (6'2 WG / North Union / 2021): If you haven't figured out by now, Crabtree can flat out score the ball. Also joining the 1000 point club last night in a 71-55 win over Benjamin Logan, the senior guard did what he does best by pouring in 29 points to lead the Wildcats to victory. With good size and length on the wing at 6-foot-2, Crabtree is tough to slow down given his ability to score from anywhere on the floor. He is deadly as a spot up shooter, can get his own shot when needed and does a good job of attacking the rim and finishing inside. Whatever small college program lands Crabtree will be getting a steal as he is a kid who will be able to give you a consistent and efficient scoring output every night out. While he is the leading scorer on a talented North Union team, we also know that the type of player Crabtree is will allow him to accept whatever role he finds himself in at the next level.

TJ Pugh (6'4 WG / Shelby / 2021): While some of our readers may not be familiar with Pugh given the fact that Shelby is very far north of Columbus, you should familiarize yourselves with him now as he leads the area in scoring at 27 points per game through nine games for the Whippets. Scoring exactly that number last night, Pugh dropped 27 in a 65-53 win over a talented Ontario team. With great size and scoring ability on the wing, Pugh is a scholarship prospect with a great body. If he continues to put up numbers like he has so far this season than his stock will only continue to rise as he posted showings amongst the likes of 41, 38 and 34 points this season.

Des Watson (6'4 WG / DeSales / 2021): Somehow this is Watson's first appearance on stars of the night this season, however we all knew it was only a matter of time before we'd see him on this list. After an impressive 24 point showing in a win over Dublin Jerome on Wednesday, the Davidson commit was back at it again on Friday night when he dropped 25 on Bishop Watterson to help lead DeSales to a big league win. Controlling the game for both halves, Watson scored 12 points in the first half and 13 in the second half to pace the Stallions. He hit two triples and connected on five of six shots from the line, both areas that he also impressed in on Wednesday. While he has to carry the scoring load for DeSales this season, the senior has done exactly that as he is averaging 23 points a night.

Teddy Brown (5'10 G / Whitehall / 2021): After going for 20 points a very impressive win over Trotwood Madison on Wednesday, Brown pieced together another solid outing by leading all scorers with 24 points in a blowout win over a solid Westerville North team. Brown is a quick guard with a dynamic handle as he plays better as the game speeds up. He showed off his range last night by connecting on four triples as well. Brown is a solid defender on the perimeter and a good leader at the guard spot as he is a big part of why Whitehall is playing some great basketball right now.

Other Notable Scorers:

DJ Moore

  • DJ Moore (6'3 PG / Worthington Christian / 2022): Surpassed 1000 career points with 23 points in a 57-49 win over Bexley
