Tessa Grady goes off for 26 in an impressive win for Dublin Coffman

DUBLIN, Ohio -- Hot shooting by the Dublin Coffman Rocks enabled them to defeat a competitive Bishop Hartley Hawk squad tonight in a non-conference matchup. Twelve threes by Coffman lifted them to a 76-57 victory.

To start the game, Coffman raced out to a 10-6 lead midway through the first, then the offense really started to heat up. They ended the quarter on a 12-5 run thanks to two threes by Kenzie Bicking

Hartley started the second quarter in a zone that gave Coffman fits and allowed the Hawks to go on a seven-zero run. After cutting the lead to four, the Hawks couldn't get much closer for the rest of the game. Coffman stalled to force Hartley out of the zone and extended their lead to eight by the end of the quarter. The Rocks went into halftime with a 30-22 lead.

Coffman exploded in the third quarter for 28 points to up their lead to double digits. Then, they never looked back.

Sophomore Tessa Grady hit three of her five three pointers in the third, fueling the Rocks offense. Hartley played a tough full court press that forced numerous turnovers by the Rocks, but Coffman’s length on defense proved to be too much to overcome.

Senior Kami Kortkrax led Bishop Hartey with 16 followed by sophomore Eloise Brandewie with 13 and Kiarra McElrath with 12. The Rocks were led by Grady with 26 and Jenna Kopyar with 11.

Tessa Grady (6’1 G / Dublin Coffman / 2023) - This was the best game we have seen Grady play this season. She was confident but not over involved. Oftentimes, her teammates found her in the right position to knock down a shot as she did a good job of getting to her spots. Her perfect positioning led to five threes today. She attacks the basket and scores easily over smaller defenders due to her length. She was a big reason for Coffman’s offensive success today.

Taylor Covington (5’7 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2022) - Covington is an interesting player at point for the Rocks. She handles the ball like a seasoned veteran and is a bit of calm in the storm. Covington is a good, consistent defender who makes her impact felt on that end. We think she could make an even bigger impact for Coffman if she could knock down two or three outside shots per game.

Jenna Kopyar (5’10 G / Dublin Coffman / 2023) - Kopyar is outstanding. While she scored less than her average today, she found other ways to get involved like a true impact player does. Her length gave opposing guards fits, especially when handling the ball. She distributed the ball well in a way that got her teammates solid open looks and she is always looking to make the extra pass. The 270 team continues to be impressed with Jenna in every showing we see, as the sophomore has some serious skill and size at the guard spot.

Cassidy Lafler (5’11 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2022) - Lafler, who is on her way back from a knee injury, is seeing more and more time each game. Tonight she was very effective for the Rocks. She made great decisions with the ball at both the guard and forward positions. Lafler played some of the best defense we have seen this season on Brandewie and Kortokrax. Her shot is smooth but still a little inconsistent. With more time to get back in the groove, we expect to see Lafler make an even bigger impact.
