A look at the top scorers from Friday night's boys action in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sometimes working out one little wrinkle in your game can be the difference in allowing you to either reach your full potential or to continue to be held back.

For Westerville Central senior guard Tasos Cook, that fix was becoming a consistent threat shooting the ball from beyond the arc, and now that he is shooting the ball with such confidence from out there, the 6-foot-2 guard has been nearly unstoppable this season.

Notching a season-high 32 points in an 86-59 league win over Westland last night, Cook continued his blazing hot start to the year as the Warhawks improved to 6-0.

After the return of fellow senior guard Quincy Clark from Elevation Prep back in November, the Warhawks look like one of the absolute best teams in the state so far this season as the duo of Cook and Clark are as good as any duo around and other key pieces such as Landon Tillman, MJ Davis and Donovan Hunter contribute to winning every night as they all seem to know their role.

If Cook continues to expand his game offensively and put up big numbers for Westerville Central every night than the sky is the limit for the Warhawks as he is having an even better season than anticipated and trust me, we expected him to have a great season to begin with.

While he dominated last night and kicks off our second edition of Stars of the Night this season, several other players showed out as well, so let's take a look at some of the other top performers on the night.

Jackson Huffer (5'10 G / Mount Gilead / 2021): Going off in a close loss to Cardington Lincoln last night, Huffer notched a season-high 28 points in the outing. After being held scoreless through the first eight minutes, the senior turned it on for the remainder of the game, scoring 23 of his points in the middle two quarters. Scoring from all over the court, Huffer nailed two triples, connected on eight two-point field goals and efficiently converted on six of seven attempts at the free throw line. One of the better players in the KMAC, we hope to continue to see showings like this from Huffer, as last night was his first time eclipsing the 20 point mark this season.

Devin Royal (6'5 WF / Pickerington Central / 2023): Less than a week removed from notching a career-high in scoring against one the best teams in Ohio in St. Vincent-St. Mary's, Royal outdid himself in a 56-52 win over a sneaky Lancaster team on Friday night. Going off for 26 points, Royal was a major reason that Pickerington Central held on late to fend off a gritty Golden Gales squad. Royal is extremely talented with his hands near the rim, is a solid rebounder, a disciplined defender and always plays with a high motor. The sophomore currently holds an offer from Ohio University and is really beginning to come into his own for the Tigers.

Connor Slabaugh (6'3 WG / Shekinah Christian / 2022): The only player to appear in both Stars of the Night articles so far this season, Slabaugh went off last night and charged a 17-0 run down the stretch to help Shekinah Christian pick up a close league win over Madison Christian 36-34. Slabaugh finished the game with 26 points and 14 rebounds, dominating down the stretch by hitting three triples and getting to line 12 times, where he knocked down 11. The junior outscored Madison Christian on his own in the fourth quarter to secure the win. After a few impressive showings this season, Slabaugh is a player who has caught our eye and we hope to get a look at this year.

Ian Schupp (6'5 WF / Worthington Kilbourne / 2021): Dominating the interior against a Westerville North team with no matchup for him, Schupp used his combination of strength, size and athleticism to bully guys around inside and finish with 26 points in a tough loss. A player who always plays with a high motor and brings the energy, Schupp did exactly that when the Wolves went down by 12 at a critical point in the game last night, providing them with big contributions that turned out to simply not be enough. A kid who has been a consistent varsity contributor for a while now, Schupp should continue to put up big numbers for the Wolves this season as they seek to capture their first OCC title in school history.
