Karli Theis saves the day for the Eagles in a big road win

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A fourth quarter charge fueled by senior Kali Theis ended up being the difference as New Albany stunned host Pickerington North 37-33 on Friday night.

Through three quarters, New Albany and Pickerington North combined for just 48 points, tied at 24. The Panthers led by as many as five in the fourth quarter, but that was short-lived as a three by senior guard Karli Theis cut it back to a one-possession game.

After several rounds of fouling and free throws, Theis managed to cut loose for another three giving the Eagles a 34-33 advantage and they never looked back. She then picked up a quick steal on the defensive end which led to a layup by Brooklyn Gammon which extended the lead. Theis capped off her quarter with one free throw to give New Albany the win.

Mayson Bates (F / Pickerington North / 2021): Bates is a very athletic forward for the Panthers. She plays mostly with her back to the basket, finishes strong through contact, and was the biggest offensive threat for Pick North tonight. Bates occasionally ventures out to take an outside shot and could be dangerous with a little touch. She is a rebounding machine, carrying the load for the Panthers.

Brooklyn Gammon (5’5 G / New Albany / 2021): Gammon is a great leader at the point guard position for New Albany. She handles the ball smoothly, facilitates and dictates tempo well, and makes great passes. Gammon, a Tiffin commit, is a pesky defender with a quick first step. Definitely a competitor at the next level.

Karli Theis (5’2 G / New Albany / 2021): Theis was the spark New Albany needed in the fourth quarter tonight. She is a sifty guard that handles the ball with confidence. She hit two threes during clutch minutes, one of which gave the Eagles the lead for good. She rattled off nine points in the fourth quarter alone and had a steal that produced another two. Theis is a competitor and a winner.
