Riddle and Boggs lead Liberty Union to an MSL rivalry win

BALTIMORE, Ohio -- In a hard fought back and forth battle, Liberty Union came out with a 52-44 win over MSL rival Bloom Carroll on Wednesday night.

Junior center Kalib Riddle and senior guard Ty Boggs led their team in crunch time and had an immense impact late in the game. Despite Bloom Carroll’s loss, junior wing Evan Dozer put an impressive performance together, finishing with a game-high 20 points and multiple offensive rebounds in clutch time.

Bloom Carroll jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first and had momentum. Liberty Union tightened up their defense after a lackluster first few minutes, and as the quarter came to a close, Boggs and senior forward Carson Warner each hit a three-pointer, tying the game at 13.

The second and third quarters each started out sloppy but each team began to recover as time went on. Boggs and Riddle in the pick and roll was deadly for Liberty Union, but Dozer’s finishing ability and his effort into getting second chances allowed them to keep it tied 37-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Once again, Boggs and Riddle started out the fourth quarter taking a lead and they never looked back. Despite Dozer’s ability to get second chances Bloom Carroll’s shots weren’t hitting and they couldn’t get it close enough, losing 52-44.

Ty Boggs (5'8 G / Liberty Union / 2021): After a tough loss to Sheridan, Boggs looked forward to the team’s next conference game and put on a show. With ability to hit from range and his shiftiness Boggs is able to get to almost any spot on the court and get an open look. Boggs’ 14 points tonight made a huge impact on the game’s outcome but his impact didn’t just include scoring. With two solid big men on the court at all times, Boggs was a constant threat in the pick and roll. If he didn’t get the shot he liked he would always find a way to get it to the big and put them in an easy position to score. Despite Boggs’ small frame he came up clutch with multiple steals in the fourth quarter and helped in a successful full court trap that led to Liberty Union’s victory.

Kalib Riddle (6'4 C / Liberty Union / 2022): Riddle’s ability on the offensive end shows a high upside and it was on full display tonight. With Liberty Union often running a two big lineup, it will almost always leave a hole open for one of the bigs to have a good night. Riddle dropped 15 points and had a large presence on the boards for the Lions. Riddle’s length allows for him to get plenty of opportunities on offense and creates tons of defense plays on the other side of the court. With junior center Jacob Denney alongside him, they are able to have a large presence in the paint on defense and minimize inside scoring. Riddle is a well rounded big with versatility.

Evan Dozer (6'1 W / Bloom Carroll / 2022): Despite Bloom Carroll’s loss, Dozer showed out in major ways and could not be stopped by anybody on the opposing roster. Pairing his scoring repertoire with his effort and ability on the defensive end and in rebounding allowed for him to have an amazing night. Not only should he be given props for his statistical performance, he also kept Bloom Carroll in the game until the final buzzer. Specifically on the offensive boards, Dozer gave his team opportunities to overcome the late deficit but the shots did not fall. Dozer is a solid two way player in the MSL and is a constant threat to any opponent they face.
