Eljae Deas and Gahanna Lincoln improved to 6-0 on Saturday

HILLIARD, Ohio -- When everything player and coach on a team believes in the team over themselves, special things can happen.

That's currently what's happening at Gahanna Lincoln (6-0), as all five Lions starters combined for 63 points in an impressive 66-51 win at Hilliard Davidson (3-2) on Saturday.

From the opening tip, Gahanna was dialed in on the defensive end, playing elite team defense and making it really hard for Davidson to find any sort of easy offense.

The Lions worked the ball into the post early and often, as its stellar front court duo of Maceo Williams and Javan Simmons really got rolling in a second quarter where Gahanna outscored Davidson 26-12.

The explosive second quarter powered the Lions the rest of the way as Davidson managed to trim the deficit to 10 points but could not get any closer.

It was a total team effort from the Lions, from the five starters, to the head coach, to the rest of the coaching staff to the players on the bench, as every member of the Gahanna program was on the same page on Saturday. Calling out every Davidson set and combining to play excellent team defense, Gahanna put together a near flawless performance in a quality road win.

Simmons led the way with 15 points and terrific post defense. His partner in the front court Williams added 14, as did senior wing Jarius Jones. Sean Jones pitched in 12 points while junior guard Eljae Deas added eight points and excellent defense.

Jared Frey led Davidson with 21 points on five threes.

Winning every single game by double figures this season, Gahanna moves on to a home stand for the next nine days when they host St. Charles on Monday.

For Davidson, the Wildcats drop their second-straight game and will look to get back to the winning side of things when they hit the road to take on Olentangy Liberty next Friday, the beginning of a stretch of three really tough league games against the Patriots, Hilliard Bradley and Upper Arlington.

We have published two prospect reports on Gahanna Lincoln already this season, as you can check out Thursday's report featuring Sean Jones, Javan Simmons, Maceo Williams and Jarius Jones here.

Eljae Deas (6'1 G / Gahanna Lincoln / 2022): On such a star-studded Gahanna Lincoln team, Deas flies under the radar, however, his impact is higher than what he gets credit for. The athletic 6-foot-1 guard improves every game out, as Saturday was his best performance yet. Shining on the defensive end of the floor, Deas took assignments against wings and bigs with several inches on him and did not give up a thing. Deas competes really hard on the defensive end, as he did a great job fronting the post and denying talented shooters from Davidson. On the offensive end, Deas plays in a controlled manner for this Gahanna team, taking great shots and showing the ability to move without the ball and get open for scores. In a backcourt with Sean Jones where the star junior gets the bulk of ball handling duties, Deas has shown the ability to be a reliable secondary creator that has an improving feel and very intriguing athletic gifts. Deas will be a guy that blows up as a senior and shows just how good he can be.

Jared Frey (6'5 WG / Hilliard Davidson / 2022): There is not a better shooter than Frey in the area. The 6-foot-5 junior is an absolute dead-eye marksman that has an elite shooting touch, form and quick release. Frey is not a one trick pony, however, as he is a talented ball handler that uses nifty shot and head fakes to keep defenders off balance to get to the rim where he's an improving finisher. Frey shows great elevation and balance on his pull up jumper, as he hit a contested one from the mid-range baseline. The junior is a threat to bury threes the moment he crosses half court, as his shooting mechanics do not change no matter the range, a quality of a truly elite shooter. While he isn't a great athlete, Frey is athletic enough to finish against size near the rim and has good instincts on the defensive end of the floor. In an era of pace and space, Frey is going to be highly recruited this summer, as there won't be many programs anywhere in America who will have a better shooter than him on the roster.

Ryan Paris (6'3 G / Hilliard Davidson / 2022): We are a big fan of Paris, who is a sharp shooting guard that always gives great effort. That was the case once again on Saturday, as Paris knocked down two threes and finished a tough three-point play in the Wildcats' run to cut the deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter. Paris is one of the few players on the roster outside of Frey who shows the ability to create offense and attack off the dribble. With a dad who is still several inches taller than him, Paris, who was 5-foot-8 as a freshman, could still be due for a late growth spurt. The junior is an above average athlete and strong competitor, things that will bode well with his shooting ability when it comes time to be recruited seriously.
