CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio -- Harvest Prep extended its nearly four-year home winning streak to 31 games on Saturday when the Warriors (6-0) survived an early 10-0 deficit to take down Groveport (0-1), 75-69.

In a first half where they were 31 team fouls called, Harvest Prep's depth proved to be better than Groveport's, as the Warriors found scoring in a variety of places to overcome its early deficit.

Sophomore forward Nyelle Shaheed was the most impactful player in the game, going for 13 points and a handful of rebounds, while taking three charges on Groveport guards. Freshman guard Adonus Abrams came off the bench and added a game-high 17 points, while senior Brian Beavers finished in double figures with 13 points on nine free throw makes.

For Groveport, top scorer Scotty Lomax battled foul trouble all game long and was limited due to that and tough shot selection. Junior forward Kenyatta Whiteside had a strong game for the Cruisers, finishing with 17 points, while junior guard Marlon Elliott Jr. pitched in 12 points. 

With the win, Harvest Prep improves to 6-0 on the season and extends its current win streak to 17 games. The Warriors have not lost since a road matchup at Olentangy Liberty on Jan. 18, 2020. The Warriors will take on Millersport in league action on Friday.

Groveport will look to notch its first win of the season at Logan on Tuesday. 

Nyelle Shaheed (6'3 WF / Harvest Prep / 2023): The best player on the floor on Saturday and it had nothing to do with his scoring. Shaheed dominated Saturday's game as a rebounder, defender and hustle player, taking three charges, coming up with every contested rebound near him and securing every 50/50 ball in his sight. When it did come to scoring, Shaheed was very efficient, as his work on the glass and in the paint helped him come up with a few second chance put backs. Shaheed ran the floor hard every trip down the floor, beating the Groveport defense in transition for a couple easy scores. Shaheed is a forward who has continued to add to his perimeter game, as he now has a reliable handle and is a very good passer who plays with an unselfish and team-first charm that we really appreciated. The junior has a great wingspan and can protect the rim, none more evident than when he came up with a huge two-hand chase down block in a major point of the fourth quarter. Simply put, Shaheed is a winner!

Adonus Abrams (5'10 PG / Harvest Prep / 2024): Abrams is one of the very best freshmen lead guards that we've been able to see thus far. The 5-foot-10 freshman immediately made an impact, as his shifty, tight handle was evident the first time he came on the floor. Abrams is a fluid, natural ball handler that was able to attack off the bounce with either hand. Going up against a veteran Groveport backcourt, Abrams was not intimidated, as he gave elite effort on both ends of the floor and was quite frankly the best guard in the game. Knocking down three triples and finishing off a couple tough drives at the rim, Abrams looked like a kid who could be the next go-to star guard in the Warriors program. Abrams keeps his head up when attacking off the dribble, as he did not turn the ball over very much and was a frustrating point of attack defender that gave Groveport's smaller guards some problems. We love the toughness and confidence that Abrams showed on Saturday, as he provided Harvest Prep with a major boost off the bench and led them to a big win.

Kenyatta Whiteside (6'3 WF / Groveport / 2022): Leding Groveport with 17 points, Whiteside had one of the more efficient showings on a Cruisers team that mightily struggled in that area. The 6-foot-3 forward played consistently hard on both ends of the floor, coming up with a handful of hustle plays that led to open opportunities. Whiteside scored it in a variety of ways, knocking down an open three, scoring a few close range buckets and coming up with an offensive put back. Whiteside gives great effort and was one of the few guys the Cruisers could rely on for large stretches on Saturday. 

Marlon Elliott Jr. (6'1 PG / Groveport / 2022): Elliott Jr. is a treat to watch, as he consistently gives elite effort and toughness to any team he plays on. That was the case once again on Saturday, as Elliott led Groveport's backcourt in scoring with 12 points but did an even better job applying pressure on the defensive perimeter. Elliott Jr. is a willing passer who looks to always make the right play, as he led his team in assists and opportunity creating plays. You can always count on Elliott Jr. to hustle and do the dirty work, as he is a great communicator and leader on the floor.
