Mari Russell's 24 point performance helps Reynoldsburg snuff out the upset bid

HILLIARD, Ohio -- Wednesday’s midday non-conference matchup featured a competitive game between Reynoldsburg and Hilliard Bradley. The Jaguars went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the state, but Reynoldsburg pulled off the 63-57 win.

After an entertaining first half with many lead changes, both teams locked in for a great finish. With four minutes left, the Raiders boasted a seven point lead which was quickly cut by a three from Carly Callahan. A Reynoldsburg turnover led to an extra possession for the Panthers and a wide open layup for Tori McClelland and the deficit dropped to just 53-51.

A Mari Russell three-pointer extended the lead, but Bradley bounced back with a long two from Chloe Callahan, and a wide open put back. After this series, the Raiders found themselves with the ball and a narrow one-point lead until Trinity Ramos knocked down a cold blooded three to give them a 59-55 lead. Bradley was forced to foul and Mari Russell sealed the game by hitting both free throws.

Reynoldsburg was led by Russell with 24, Ramos with 13, Alexia Mobley with 12, and Mya Perry with 10. Hilliard Bradley was led by Chloe Callahan with 27 and Leigha Dennison with 12. The Raiders improve to 2-0, while the Jaguars drop to 1-3.

Mari Russell (5’11 G / Reynoldsburg / 2022) - Russell is one of the most talented and athletic players in the area and was a game wrecker Wednesday for the Raiders. With every blink of the eye, Mari was making a big offensive play by draining a three, attacking and finishing, or making a great pass to a teammate. She established herself as a GREAT perimeter defender and held her own on the inside. Reynoldsburg was significantly better with Russell on the floor.

Trinity Ramos (5’6 G/ Reynoldsburg / 2022) - Ramos was a huge offensive spark for the Raiders today hitting multiple three pointers, most notably at the end of the first and and to seal the game in the fourth. The junior handles the ball well and pushes the tempo in transition, and her hands are extremely active on defense, forcing multiple turnovers a game.

Chloe Callahan (G / Hilliard Bradley / 2021) - Callahan, the Findlay signee, was stellar today for the Jaguars. She handled the ball well despite the constant pressure, and her three point shot is smooth and quick, which will be beneficial at the next level. Whether attacking the basket or stepping back for three, Chloe does a good job creating open looks for herself and her teammates.
