Kilyn McGuff led Watterson to a big home win over Coffman on Tuesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Games in Central Ohio are finally starting to pick up after delays due to COVID-19. This afternoon, Bishop Watterson took down Dublin Coffman, 52-36, in a tough non-conference matchup.

After a slow couple of minutes, Watterson locked down on defense which led to easier buckets and a scoring surge. The Eagles ended the quarter on a Danielle Grim three and a 16-6 lead.

The Eagles stretched their lead in the final seconds of the first half thanks to Kilyn McGuff. On a tough drive to the basket, McGuff finished through contact for two. AFter a Coffman turnover, McGuff drew a foul on a three point shot as time expired. She hit all three of her free throws giving Watterson a 31-16 lead at halftime.

Watterson absolutely dominated the third quarter, holding Coffman to just five points. The quarter was capped off by a beautiful baseline drive and dish by Danielle Grim to Brynn Mulligan for three in the corner as time expired.

Kilyn McGuff, Keiryn McGuff, and Kiley Graham combined for 33 in the win. Jenna Kopyar led the Rocks with nine. With the win, Bishop Watterson improves their record to 2-1. Dublin Coffman drops to 2-2.

Let’s take a look at today’s top performers.

Kilyn McGuff (6’0 G / Bishop Watterson / 2021) - The older McGuff was absolutely dominant on both ends of the floor today. Despite being face guarded for most of the game, McGuff was still able to score at will when attacking the basket. She finishes strong through contact and is a force on the offensive boards. The combination of her length and athleticism makes her hard to guard and a nightmare for opposing defenses. Kilyn would positively impact a large number of programs, given the chance.

Kiley Graham (F / Bishop Watterson / 2022) - Graham is an intriguing forward for the Eagles who carries a lot of the interior duties for the team. While she mainly plays around the block, she is not afraid to handle the ball or shoot the three. She runs and finishes well in transition. With a little polishing of her offensive moves, Graham could be very dominant for Watterson.

Jenna Kopyar (5’10 G / Dublin Coffman / 2023) - In a game where Coffman struggled offensively, Kopyar was a bright spot. Even though she is just a sophomore, she carries most of the ball handling duties and does so with poise. Her shot from three is smooth, knocking down two in the first half, and is one of the most important offensive pieces for the Rocks. Jenna’s length proves to be challenging for ball handlers making her a great defensive threat.

Danielle Grim (PG / Bishop Watterson / 2021) - The Long Island commit is a seasoned point guard for the Eagles. She handles the ball confidently no matter the amount of pressure. Grim is a work horse who is willing to do whatever it takes to make the team successful. She was a stellae defender on Kopyar, limiting her scoring attempts.
