Kami Kortokrax goes for 19 points as Bishop Hartley moves to 4-0

CANTON, Ohio -- The only area team playing on Sunday, Bishop Hartley’s girls squad made the long trip up to GlenOak High School in Canton to take part in the Wishes Can Happen Invitational.

Behind 19 points from senior Ohio State softball commit Kami Kortokrax and a great all-around team effort, the Hawks rolled to a convincing 56-32 win over Southeast.

After the Lady Hawks jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, Southeast trimmed the deficit towards the end of the frame, trailing just 13-9 after one.

Piecing together a huge run and holding Southeast scoreless for the majority of the second quarter, Hartley blew the game open with their full court pressure and ability to share the ball, taking a 34-17 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Lady Hawks never looked back after this, increasing their lead to 27 points after three quarters and resting the majority of their starters for the final eight minutes of the game.

Outside of 19 points from Kortokrax, Hartley received 13 points from Bella Parker, 10 from Eloise Brandewie and eight points from Milayna Williams

They move to 4-0 following the win.

Kami Kortokrax (5’10 WF / Bishop Hartley / 2021): An Ohio State softball signee, we were impressed with the performance Kortokrax put together on the hardwood today. Using her combination of strength and quickness to her advantage, Kortokrax scored a few buckets on the interior and got by defenders and into the lane where she drew contact on multiple occasions. She also nailed her only three point attempt on the day. Kortokrax is an active defender, cleans up the glass on both ends and plays with a really high IQ, as she did a great job of starting the fastbreak after grabbing rebounds and made some impressive passes in the half court. The clear leader of a Bishop Hartley team with the potential to win the CCL and possibly the district in Division II, Kortokrax will continue to fill it up for the Lady Hawks this season.

Eloise Brandewie (6’2 PF / Bishop Hartley / 2023): A Division I volleyball recruit, Brandewie is quite the hooper as well, as she put together an impressive showing on Sunday. Putting her height and good hands to use, Brandewie did a good job of catching passes on the interior and finishing near the rim with consistency. She also showed off her ability to pass out of the post with a couple of impressive dishes from the low block and threw an impressive full court pass with one hand for an easy transition bucket. Brandewie cleans up the glass on both ends and is a disciplined defender on the interior as well. The sophomore will be a mismatch for a lot of teams the Lady Hawks face this season and just might be their x-factor.

Milayna Williams (5’8 WG / Bishop Hartley / 2021): A Muskingum commit, we were impressed with the showing Williams put together on both ends of the floor on Sunday. The senior guard can really pass the ball, keeps it on a string and plays with a really high IQ, as she operates well with the ball in her hands and does a good job of creating for herself and others. She hit two three’s on Sunday, one of which was off of a smooth one dribble sidestep, and also made an impressive mid range off the dribble after weaving through the Southeast defense. Muskingum definitely got a steal in Williams, as she plays with a great IQ on both ends and really affects winning.

Bella Parker (5’6 WG / Bishop Hartley / 2022): Shooting the lights out on Sunday, Parker had a solid showing for Bishop Hartley. Hitting three triples and playing some solid perimeter defense, the junior excelled in her role and finished with 13 points for the Lady Hawks. Parker plays well within the offense, is always ready to shoot and fills the lanes in transition, as she is a vital piece of the Hawks deep rotation.
