Hinkle leads Liberty's balanced attack with 21 points

WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- Olentangy Liberty's balanced attack led by 21 points from senior guard Henry Hinkle helped them hold off a late Thomas Worthington push in a 67-61 victory on Tuesday.

Tyrese Hughey got off to a good start with six points early in the first quarter. He went on to pick up two fouls and sat the rest of the quarter.

Liberty started to pull away shortly after behind a 10 point quarter from junior guard Cooper Davis. He knocked down an and-1 three-pointer right at the end of the quarter and Liberty led 19-12 after the first.

Jalen Sullinger scored six points in the second quarter to pace Thomas, but balanced scoring from Davis, Hinkle, and Andrew Wade gave Liberty a 35-25 halftime advantage.

Despite an 18 point second half from Jalen Sullinger, the Patriots maintained a sizable lead for the remainder of the second half. A late Thomas push was countered by superb team free throw shooting from Olentangy Liberty as they went 21-25 from the line to close the game.

For Liberty, Hinkle led with 21 points, Wade had 16, and Davis and Ty Foster each added 13.

For Thomas Worthington, Sullinger had a game-high 24 points and Tyrese Hughey added 12.

Henry Hinkle (6’0 G / Olentangy Liberty /2021): Hinkle had a great night. He ran the offense almost to perfection, making great decisions in the pick and roll and just in general. He had the perfect balance of finding his teammates and getting his own shots. Despite seeing good on ball defenders who provided great ball pressure, Hinkle played with a lot of poise and never got  rattled. He finished at the rim well and was a perfect 10-10 from the line.

One of the better guards in the area, it’s a mystery why he doesn’t have more offers. He is a flat out winner, leader, can make shots and gets others involved.

Cooper Davis (6’4 WG / Olentangy Liberty / 2022): Davis, known as one of the better shooters in the area, was a marksman again tonight by knocking down four threes. Most impressive tonight though was his defensive effort. You can tell he’s working on that end of the floor and he provided a huge energy boost for his teammates, finishing the game with three blocks.

Jalen Sullinger (5’10  PG / Thomas Worthington / 2021): Sullinger was held scoreless in the first, but when you can put it in the hole like the Kent State commit   that doesn’t last long as he would go on to score 24 over the next three quarters. He scored at will during the second half, showing the ability to consistently breakdown defenders off the dribble and get to the rim finishing over defenders. He knocked two threes as well.

Andrew Wade (6’6 F / Olentangy Liberty / 2021 ): Wade played a man's game tonight cleaning up the defensive glass. He was a force on the inside, finishing through contact over and over again with multiple and-1 finishes. He made some good passes as well when operating the offense from the top of the key. He made the perfect partner for Hinkle in the pick and roll game as the dive man and abused mismatches when they switched.
