Sophia Kline, Bella Kline and Berne Union remained unbeaten on Thursday

BALTIMORE, Ohio -- Tonight’s MSL cross divisional featured two talented teams in Berne Union and Liberty Union. These programs have big expectations for the 2020-21 season featuring a couple of the top players in the area.

Both teams struggled to score early but Berne Union managed to lead 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and 27-18 at the end of two. While the Rockets led the entire game, the Lions put up a fight in the second half.

After trailing by 15+ in the fourth quarter, Liberty Union cut the lead to seven by getting to the free throw line. Their comeback was halted by foul trouble but not without giving the Rockets a scare. With tonight’s 42-43 win, Berne Union moves to 5-0 on the season while Liberty Union drops to 1-2.

Let’s take a look at some of tonight’s top performers.

Sophia Kline (G/F / Berne Union / 2023) - Sophia, the youngest of the Kline sisters, comes in at lengthy 6’1. She is extremely athletic and uses that to her advantage when she is guarded by traditional post players. She handles the ball fairly well and finishes best closer to the basket. Kline is efficient when attacking the basket off the dribble and in fun to watch in transition.

Emily Blevins (G / Berne Union / 2021) - Blevins was the leader for the Rockets in the first half. She has a high motor and plays with a tremendous energy. She attacks the basket, finishes through contact and shoots well from the outside. She brings an invaluable energy to the defensive end of the floor which led to lots of offense for Berne Union. Rio Grande definitely picked up a winner in Emily!

Abbie Riddle (G / Liberty Union / 2023) - Riddle is a talented guard with multiple Division I offers. While she was hounded all night, she was still able get to the basket and free throw line. Riddle has a nice shot but seems to be on a cold streak right now. The 5’11 guard was tremendous defensively in an effort to slow down Berne Union standout Bella Kline.
