The Presidents pressured the Spartans en route to a big victory

MARION, Ohio -- Marion Harding’s full court defensive effort proved to be too much for Pleasant to handle very early in the game, as they turned up the pressure early and often, handing the Spartans a 73-36 loss.

The Presidents dominated inside the paint behind the rebounding efforts of Justice Steinman-Ross. Their pressure defense led to lots of transition opportunities led by Ariyah Douglas and her superior passing ability.

While many of the MOAC schools are in quarantine or not playing due to high COVID-19 numbers, Marion Harding and Pleasant were able to compete. Yet again, thanks to live streaming, the 270 Girls Hoops crew was able to take in the game. Let’s take a look at some of the night’s best players.

Keyani Jackson (G / Marion Harding / 2023): Even though she is one of the younger players on the roster, Jackson is seeing a lot of minutes and playing well. She has a smooth mid range and three-point shot and is one of the scoring leaders for the Presidents. Her long frame and outstanding athleticism makes her effective on the offensive and defensive boards. If Jackson can continue to grow her game, she has a bright future ahead.

Ariyah Douglas (G / Marion Harding / 2021): This is the second game we have seen Douglas and yet again, she was one of the best players in the gym. She is a floor general, is crafty on drives to the basket and has deep range. While Douglas could score 20-30 points a night, her great passing ability gets her teammates involved and makes Harding hard to beat.

Whitney Waddell (G / Pleasant / 2024): Waddell is just a freshman but playing big minutes for the Spartans. She has a high motor and is most effective from midrange and finishes well when attacking the basket. Waddel is frequently in the right place at the right time, making perfect cuts. If she can improve her ball handling skills, she will be one to watch in the coming years.

Justice Steinman-Ross (F / Marion Harding / 2022): Steinman-Ross is one of the few true post players we have seen this year. She finishes strong going to her right hand and plays the high post well. Justice is the best rebounder on the floor for the Presidents, consistently pounding the glass on both ends of the floor. While having a true post is already an offensive threat, she could develop into a huge offensive threat if she grows and refines her left hand.
