COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The COVID-19 cancellations continue to pour in. After a busy Thursday in which the Columbus City League, the Central Catholic League and Hilliard City Schools announced that they would be suspending all athletic competitions through at least December 18, the Ohio Capital Conference executive committee took it a step forward.

Voting to suspend all league competition through December 17, the OCC became the first major conference in Ohio that represents multiple school districts to take major action - a major news story that was first reported by 270 Hoops.

OCC league games were slated to start on Dec. 1 for girls basketball and Dec. 4 for boys. This announcement also includes competition between OCC teams from different divisions, as Friday's girls basketball opener between Dublin Coffman and Dublin Jerome was also subsequently cancelled.

The OCC includes 32 different high school programs from Franklin, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking and Union counties. 

According to a report from This Week Sports' Frank DiRenna, OCC commissioner Ken Baker said that OCC members are still able to schedule non-league contests, adding that it would be a "local decision."

It will be interesting to see the stance that local districts take with this. With nearly half of the Central District positioned to be postponed for the next month, pressure will be higher than ever for surrounding districts to also delay competition.
