VonCameron Davis is the first City League hooper to win Mr. Basketball since Trey Burke

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It has been nearly 10 years and the day has finally come. Mr. Basketball has returned to the Columbus City League.

For the first time since 2011, Ohio's Mr. Basketball award has been given to a City League hooper as Walnut Ridge senior VonCameron Davis became the first player in his program's history to take home the incredible honor.

Davis is the fourth City League alum to take home the award, joining Northland's Trey Burke (2011), Northland's Jared Sullinger (2009, 2010) and Independence's Kenny Gregory (1997) in elite company.

The Kent State signee is the third local player to win the award in four years, as Westerville South's Kaleb Wesson won it in 2017 followed by Upper Arlington's Dane Goodwin in 2018.

The Mr. Basketball award is just the cherry on top of an incredible senior season for Davis, which included leading Walnut Ridge to its first City League title since 1971 and first district title since 2015.

Davis finishes his illustrious career with 2,201 career points, which is first all-time in the City League and Central District Division I history.

The 6-foot-5 Kent State commit was also named Gatorade Player of the Year, Division I Player of the Year and first-team all-state, all-district and all-City League.
