A look at the Division II district semifinal action in the area

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- And then there were four. The district final pairings for Saturday at Central Crossing High School are set following Wednesday's Division II district semifinal action.

Let's take a look at what happened in the area.

#6 Beechcroft (17-6) 56, #5 Linden-McKinley (14-10) 51

For the better part of two and a half quarters, it looked as if Linden was going to pull off a three-game season sweep of Beechcroft on Wednesday night. The final 12 minutes proved to be something else entirely as the Cougars used a 15-2 second half run to close the gap and eventually knock off Linden 56-51 in a district semifinal game at Westland.

The Panthers had amassed a double-digit lead multiple times through the opening 20 minutes of play, jumping up 32-20 at half time and most notably taking a 39-28 advantage with just over two minutes left in the third.

That’s where things changed however, as senior Davon Wooden was a spark plug for Beechcroft, hitting a big baseline jumper to trim the lead to single digits. Linden’s inability to get many quality looks over the final two minutes of the third was where the Cougars made them pay the most, trimming the deficit to 41-36 heading to the fourth.

Amani Lyles tied the score early in the quarter with a nice up-and-under layup, and Wooden once again stepped up, getting a big and-one just after that to give Beechcroft the lead at 43-41. The momentum shift over those three minutes really carried the Cougars through.

Linden was not done just yet, cutting the margin to 53-51 with :58.5 remaining and getting a steal on the ensuing inbounds. A missed three and subsequent foul on the following possession put JJ Simmons at the line for two, knocking down both to make the margin four. A block by Antwoin Reed would put the cap on the win just one possession later.

Beechcroft was led by Amani Lyles, scoring a game-high 20 points in the victory. In their final game of the year, Linden’s Chance Groce scored a team-high 16 points.

Beechcroft now advances to play No. 11 Eastmoor in the district final Saturday at 1 p.m. at Central Crossing.

#11 Eastmoor (14-10) 51, #8 London (17-8) 41

Eastmoor moves on to the district finals to play No. 6 Beechcroft on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Central Crossing.

#1 Jonathan Alder (20-4) 48, #18 Bexley (7-18) 26

Jonathan Alder moves on to the district finals to play No. 3 DeSales on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Central Crossing. The Pioneers have a chance to win their first district title since 1979.

#3 DeSales (18-6) 63, #2 Heath (24-1) 53

Unbeaten no more.

Behind 34 points in an absolutely dominant showing from Des Watson, DeSales powered past Heath and never panicked in the Stallions' first district semifinal victory since 2016.

DeSales moves on to the district finals to take on No. 1 Jonathan Alder on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Central Crossing.
