A look at the Division III district semifinal action in the area

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- And then there were four. In just one week, we've gone from a complete field in Division III to our final four teams that will be competing for district titles on Friday.

Let's take a look at the action from Tuesday in the area.

(This will be updated throughout the night with in-depth stories.)

#1 Harvest Prep (20-3) 65, #12 Columbus Academy (11-12) 41

Harvest Prep advances to the district finals to take on No. 2 Worthington Christian on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Ohio Dominican.

#2 Worthington Christian (19-4) 60, #8 Northmor (16-7) 35

After starting out tournament play strong last Friday against No. 14 Fairbanks, Worthington Christian kept their momentum going tonight with a huge win over Northmor by a score of 60-35.

Northmor’s offense was working early in the first quarter through post entries and by running their offense through their senior Blake Miller.

After a competitive first frame, Worthington Christian turned up their defensive pressure, making it difficult for Northmor to execute offensively. Worthington Christian forced multiple turnovers resulting in easy fast break baskets all night long. The Warriors dominated the middle quarters by a score of 31-11 to secure themselves a spot in the Division III district finals.

Worthington Christian showed off their balanced attack by having five players contribute at least seven points tonight. Senior Derrick Hardin led the way with a team high 18 points and junior Tyler Kindberg added 10 points and five rebounds. Juniors Kobe Buford and Drew Faieta each added eight points. Despite missing the majority of the first half due to foul trouble, sophomore DJ Moore provided seven points, three rebounds and a game high six assists.

Miller was a bright spot tonight by contributing a game high in points and rebounds, scoring 19 points and hauling in six rebounds. Senior Hunter Mariotti also added 8 points for the Golden Knights.

Worthington Christian advances to the district finals to take on No. 1 Harvest Prep on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Ohio Dominican.

#3 North Union (23-0) 51, #5 Africentric (13-10) 44

In a downright thriller at Olentangy Berlin, North Union used an 18-2 fourth quarter to shock Africentric, 51-44.

Trailing 42-33 after three quarters of play, North Union held Africentric without a field goal for nearly the entire fourth quarter, as the Nubians didn't score their first bucket until there were 10 seconds left in the game.

Preston Crabtree hit a three to take a 45-42 lead with 1:05 remaining. From that point forward, Africentric never led again as North Union turned up the pressure and held the Nubians to two points in the entire fourth quarter.

North Union moves on to the district finals to take on No. 7 Johnstown on Friday at 6 p.m. at Ohio Dominican.

#7 Johnstown (17-7) 56, #4 Bishop Ready (16-6) 47

An early 10-0 second quarter run helped No. 7 Johnstown take control early, defeating Bishop Ready 56-47 in a Division III district semifinal on Tuesday night at Westerville Central.

The size of Johnstown was too much for Bishop Ready as the Johnnies controlled the paint all night. They outrebounded the Knights by 20 in the victory.

After falling behind 7-2 early in the first quarter, Johnstown went on the 10-0 run to gain the lead that they would keep for the duration of the game. Led by junior Jake Lusk, the Johnstown forward scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Junior guard Gavin Foe was also excellent for the Johnnies, contributing 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

In his final game of the season, Bishop Ready junior Darius Parham laid it all out there for his team. Parham scored 19 points and had five steals in an all around great effort.

Johnstown will now face North Union in the district finals this Friday at 6 p.m. at Ohio Dominican.
