DJ Moore goes for 26 As Worthington Christian stuns Wellington in the fourth quarter

WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- The MSL-Ohio is one of the more competitive leagues in the area. There are no guarantees and any team can be knocked off on any given night. Tonight's game showed exactly that as Worthington Christian dug deep to edge out Wellington 66-63 behind 26 points from DJ Moore.

After back to back and-one finishes from Marcus Stewart, Wellington led 56-44  with 6:10 remaining in the game. It appeared Wellington was on their way to a big time victory, but Worthington Christian had other plans in mind. They played tenacious  defense and outscored Wellington 22-6 in the final six minutes to pull off an absolute stunner as Warriors fans cheered but were also in disbelief of the victory.

For Worthington Christian, Moore led all scorers with 26, Derrick Hardin had 15 and Nakimba Mullins chipped in with 13.

For Wellington Elijah Meredith scored a team high 22 points, Chase Ouellette had 16 and Stewart had 11.

DJ Moore (6’3 G / Worthington Christian / 2022 ): The sophomore came out in attack mode, scoring eight first quarter points. His blazing fast first step was on display as he got to the rim at will, ultimately making Wellington opt to go zone. Most impressive was the confidence in his jumper as he had the mid range pull up going consistently. He knocked down a three as well and took care of business at the line, knocking down 9-11 attempts. Defensively he provided good pressure and wreaked havoc by coming up with four steals.

Elijah Meredith (6’5 WG / Wellington / 2020): Meredith continued to show how he’s emerged as a wing. He is a grab and go threat as he pulled down a ton of defensive rebounds and initiated offense. He showed off his range knocking down three long range bombs. He looked good when he put the ball on the floor, using no wasted dribbles as he beat his man and finished through contact consistently.  He also showed off the ability to punish smaller defenders in the post. He was patient in the post and made some good passes to get his teammates good looks. Meredith is a sleeper who has emerged as a legitimate D2 prospect.

Derrick Hardin (6’2 G / Worthington Christian / 2020): Hardin is known for his elite perimeter shooting ability, but he showed off his ability to put the ball and get to the rim tonight. He got some buckets attacking the offensive glass and knocked down two threes. Mount Vernon Nazarene is getting a battle tested confident shot maker in Hardin.

Chase Ouellette (6’4 F / Wellington / 2022 ): The lengthy six-foot-four wing really caught our eye tonight. He let it fly with confidence and looked the part of a marksman  by knocking down four threes. He’s a guy to really keep an eye on, as he is fresh off a career high 19  points in a win against Columbus Academy. He’s finding his rhythm at the perfect time of year for a Wellington team looking to make a deep run in D4.
