Caldwell underclassmen Bede Lori and Jett Lori combined for 49 points on Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Caldwell made the 90 minute trip to Columbus for a non-league tussle between fellow Division IV foe Tree of Life. The Redskins made great use of the drive, as freshman Bede Lori and sophomore Jett Lori combined for 49 points in a dominant 72-32 victory for Caldwell.

Bede Lori got started off quickly with 10 points in the first four minutes as Caldwell jumped out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the period. From that point forward, the Lori cousins went absolutely bonkers, as Jett Lori proceeded to hit seven threes and go for 27 points, while his younger cousin Bede Lori added 22 of his own.

The game was never really in reach for the host Trojans, however, senior guard Ian Leach did all he could to make it somewhat competitive early, going for 12 of his 14 points in the first half.

Caldwell is young, but the 'Skins sure are talented, as fellow sophomore Mat Kowalsky had a strong showing on the interior in the victory. In a southeast district sectional that includes both Berlin Hiland and Zanesville Rosecrans, Caldwell will have a stiff challenge to get to the Athens regional next month, however, the Skins should be a force for years to come behind the high IQ play of the Lori cousins.

Bede Lori (6'3 PG / Caldwell / 2023): While it had been several months since our last viewing of Lori, we knew what to expect in Saturday's matchup. The 6-foot-3 freshman is enjoying a big time rookie season at the varsity level, as he is putting up high efficiency numbers that are hard to come by for someone of his age. The reining winner of the 'Best Guard' award at The 270 Hoops Intro event for rising freshman, Lori showed exactly why he is so highly regarded in the victory. Lori is a knockdown shooter who literally did not miss in warmups and translated that to the game, as he hit two catch and shoot threes, a handful of mid-range jumpers off the bounce and was able to get to the rim whenever he wanted. The 6-foot-3 freshman has an elite IQ for his age, as he is a highly talented passer that has great vision and understanding of the game. We really enjoyed watching Lori operate off the dribble, as Saturday was one of few games lately where he wasn't face guarded or double teamed. We have seen a handful of the state's top freshmen talent and we are confident enough to believe that Lori is among the elite group at the lead guard spot, as he plays the game at a high level and can make everyone around him better. Lori has a swagger to his game, which makes him so fun to watch because he looks so comfortable out there.

Jett Lori (5'11 G / Caldwell / 2022): Simply put, Lori has a BURNER. The 5-foot-11 sophomore was unconscious from three, knocking down SEVEN catch and shoot triples to go for a game-high 27 points. Lori hit four of those triples alone in the third quarter, helping Caldwell break open the game and win by a massive margin. Lori is just like his younger cousin Bede in that he knows how to play the game, helps Caldwell keep the ball moving and is a talented passer that helped set up his teammates all game long. When he wasn't hitting threes, Lori showed the ability to beat slower footed defenders off the bounce where he scored two attempts at the rim. We look forward to seeing how the Lori cousins develop as they showed their big scoring potential on Saturday.

Mat Kowalsky (6'4 PF / Caldwell / 2022): A player that the Caldwell staff said has been coming along strong as of late, Kowalsky showed exactly why on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 sophomore was a major force on the glass, helping Caldwell come up with a handful of offensive rebounds with his toughness and physicality on the boards. Kowalsky had a few tough finishes inside converting through traffic. With the Lori cousins commanding a lot of attention, it'll be important for Kowalsky to keep developing for Caldwell to have a reliable secondary option on the offensive end.

Ian Leach (5'10 PG / Tree of Life / 2020): Leach was the only college prospect on the floor for Tree of Life on Saturday and had a strong first half before the game got out of hand. The 5-foot-10 senior is a tough customer at the lead guard spot, as he had a few tough finishes off the bounce, hit a catch and shoot three in the first half and was able to knock down contested jumpers. While Tree of Life is down from the last two years, Leach is someone the Trojans can rely on to give them toughness, leadership and playmaking ability at the point guard spot. We liked the way that Leach moved the ball, showing signs of being a skilled passer that was able to make good decisions off the bounce against pressure.
