Keaton Turner goes for 42 points to lead Dublin Coffman to a huge OCC-Central win over Marysville

DUBLIN, Ohio -- What is 42 backwards? That’s right, 24. Dublin Coffman senior Keaton Turner paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant tonight by channeling his inner Mamba Mentality. Turner poured in 42 points and grabbed five rebounds, leading Dublin Coffman (14-5, 7-1) to a 70-53 win over Marysville (10-6, 7-1).

Coffman picked up a huge win Tuesday night, avenging their earlier overtime loss to Marysville on December 20th. The two teams now share the top spot in the OCC-Central at 7-1.

After being down two and only having ten points at halftime, Turner decided it was time to flip on the switch. Midway through the third quarter the 6-foot senior began a run that carried his team the rest of the way.

Turner poured in the last ten points of third quarter, including a buzzer-beating three that gave his team a 45-41 lead to take into the final quarter. He kept the momentum going by scoring the first six of the fourth quarter, and 12 more after that to finish with a grand total of 42.

He wasn’t the only one displaying great effort however, as senior Jesse Hains and junior Nash Hostetler put up great performances as well. Hains was terrific on the defensive end of the floor tonight and contributed 14 points and four rebounds. For Hostetler, he finished with 13 points and five rebounds in a solid all-around effort as well.

Marysville put up a strong fight tonight in the loss. They were in the game and in a position to win until Turner flipped the switch. Led by junior guard Jack Christian, the Monarchs fought hard, but couldn’t score down the stretch or get the stops they needed.

Christian finished with 18 points and five rebounds. It was a tale of two halves for the junior as he scored 14 of his 18 in the first half, then failed to make a field goal in the second half. Despite the rough ending, Christian scored from a variety of ways and had a good outing.

The Monarchs also found production from senior Joey Duke. Duke did a great job distributing the ball to his teammates and scoring when he needed to as he finished the game with nine points, five assists, and three rebounds.

Also for Marysville was the talented junior Garrett Taylor, who never really got going offensively, but still had a positive impact for his team. Taylor finished with eight points and cleaned up the glass pulling in seven rebounds.

Coffman, now winners of four in a row, will travel to Westerville North on Tuesday and look to keep their winning streak alive.

Marysville, after having their four-game winning streak snapped, will travel to Big Walnut on Tuesday and look to get back on track with a win.

Keaton Turner (6’0 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2020): Turner put on a show tonight scoring a season-high 42 points on six triples and 8-for-9 from the line. There was a six-minute stretch in 3rd and 4th quarters where Turner was unconscious, burying five of his threes off the dribble and slicing down the lane to get to the free throw line. Turner now has scored 34 and 42 points against division opponent Marysville this season. He scored in a variety of ways tonight, but what was most impressive was his confidence, energy, and leadership that he brought for the rest of his team tonight. He proved why he is one of the area’s leading scorers and why he will excel wherever he ends up at the next level.

Jesse Hains (6’0 G / Dublin Coffman / 2020): Hains gave an incredible effort tonight for the Rocks on both ends of the floor. We loved the hustle and determination he played with in all facets of the game. He scored 14 points and was very efficient in his shooting as he was strong and efficient in attacking the rim. Hains was also very reliable on the defensive end and on the glass as he stepped up big down the stretch. The 6-foot senior had a lot to do with Marysville’s struggle down the stretch.

Jack Christian (5’11 G / Marysville / 2021): Despite not being able to put the full performance together, Christian had a good outing for the Monarchs. He scored efficiently in the first half on many tough shots, tallying up 14 through the first two quarters. Christian played extremely hard as well and was tough all night, both on the ball and with the ball in his hands. He brings an impressive skillset to the floor and will look to get Marysville back to winning basketball going forward.

Nash Hostetler (6’3 WG / Dublin Coffman / 2021): Hostetler had a great outing for Coffman tonight, scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds while knocking down three triples. The 6-foot-3 junior has a nice stroke from deep and even showed to have nice touch from in close. Even more than that, Hostetler played very well on the defensive end tonight, blocking a pair of shots and securing important rebounds throughout the game. He is a very key piece for this Coffman squad and will continue to be as the season closes and we walk into the tournament.
