Bobcats get revenge for loss suffered to Buckeye Valley earlier in the season by dominating final two quarters

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Enjoy 'em while you've got 'em.

Grandview Heights has been led by their standout senior duo of Brian Collier and Luke Lachey all season long and Friday night was no different as the two combined for 50 points and the Bobcats avenged a loss suffered to Buckeye Valley earlier in the season, racing past the Barons in a huge 65-44 home victory.

Jumping out to a quick 8-2 lead and forcing a Grandview timeout with 4:32 left in the first frame, Buckeye Valley used a couple of tough post scores from senior Max Stokey and a baseline finish from Dylan Herbert to gain momentum early on and make it look as if they may control the Bobcats once again.

Stokey and Lachey battled through the entire frame, as Lachey scored seven and Stokey managed six points of his own to help Buckeye Valley take a 13-9 lead after one.

Despite a slow first quarter from Collier, the senior turned it on in the second, going for 10 points in the quarter and forcing a Buckeye Valley timeout two minutes into the frame after capping off a 9-0 run and giving Grandview an 18-15 advantage.

While Lance Trares finished an easy lay up from Collier to force another Buckeye Valley timeout and give Grandview a 29-22 lead with 1:31 left in the half, Jacob Radcliffe converted a tough basket in transition right before the buzzer to help the Barons trim the deficit to 29-24 at half.

Opening up the second half playing with the same offensive rhythm and energy that they ended the second with, Grandview increased their lead to double digits when an and-one from Lachey pushed the margin to 36-24 with 5:06 to go in the third.

He and Collier took complete control of the game in the third, combining for an efficient 16 points in the frame. On the other end, Buckeye Valley simply went ice cold, as the Barons just couldn't seem to buy a bucket against Grandview's zone and headed into the final quarter trailing 49-31.

While Buckeye Valley was in need of a huge run to open up the fourth in order to have a chance in this one, Grandview made sure that didn't happen, as a tough score inside from Lachey coupled with a three off the dribble from Collier totally ignited the crowd and pushed the Bobcats lead to 56-31 with 5:42 to go, all but wrapping this one up.

For Buckeye Valley, Stokey led the way with 10 points in a showing where the Barons never established a rhythm on offense. The senior big showed off good touch near the rim on a few tough scores against Lachey, using his length and size to create clean looks inside.

Radcliffe followed him up with nine points on five free-throws, Owen Osborne scored six and three Buckeye Valley players finished with five points a piece.

The Barons move to 12-4 following the loss and will host Bexley in another MSL-Ohio showdown on Tuesday.

For Grandview, Collier led the way with 30 points in a fantastic showing. The senior lead guard knocked down four triples, had a few tough scores off the bounce, forced a few steals and set his teammates up for easy looks on several occasions, doing a little bit of everything for the Bobcats as usual. If you're a small college program in need of guard play and you're reading this, take a look at Collier, as he has consistently put up big numbers this season and has four years of varsity experience under his belt.

Lachey also scored 20 for Grandview, as the Iowa football commit was a load to handle for both matchups Buckeye Valley threw at him as he scored it in a variety of ways, dominated the glass on both ends and also blocked four shots.

The Bobcats move to 12-5 following the win and host Whitehall next Tuesday in a game that could shake things up at the top of the MSL-Ohio if Grandview can find a way to come out on top.
