MARENGO, Ohio -- The Licking Valley Panthers defeated the Highland Fighting Scots by a score of 60-29, notching their second win in a row and the fourth in five games.

Tuesday’s performance puts senior Carson Conley at 1016 points, making him the seventh to do so in school history and the first since current Heath Bulldogs coach Devin Fulk in 2004. The leading scorer in the LCL averaging 21.2 point per game, Conley led the way for the Panthers with 30 points and five steals.

Senior Ethan Curry of Licking Valley and senior Branton Howard of Highland each traded three point baskets to start the game. Conley added four quick points to give the Panthers an early 9-5 lead with 4:23 left in the first quarter.

To end the first frame, Conley dropped a dime to cutting senior Hunter Vermilion and a strong finish through contact in the lane.  With two points shy from 1000 points, the Panthers ended the quarter 21-5.

Howard gets the second quarter started for the Scots by draining another three pointer.

Conley’s tough “and one” basket put him in the Licking Valley 1000 point club. His 1000th point put the Panthers ahead 24-8 (RIP Kobe) with 5:07 left in the first half.

Junior Wyatt Groves drained a three pointer and freshman Gavin Hankins sinked a midrange fade-away jumper for the Scots, but Conley continued his stellar scoring display by contributing 24 first half points giving the Panthers a 35-14 halftime lead.

Conley started the second half out with a pair of made free throws and a blow by drive through contact. Senior Luke Hampton made a nifty steal leading to the transition layup, extending the Panthers lead to 43-17 with 4:41 left in the third quarter.

Senior Lance Sawyers chipped in for the Panthers by collecting an offensive rebound and then finishing the put back layup. Scots freshman Jordan Bellamy finished off the third quarter with a strong “and one” conversion, however the Scots still trailed 48-20.

The Panthers pressure defense kept the Scots from executing their game plan, resulting in a 60-29 victory.

If Conley continues this incredible scoring pace, the Panthers will be right in the thick of the LCL race and he will find himself climbing the school’s career scoring list. The four-year starter has had an accomplished career, excelling both on the hardwood and the gridiron where he helped Licking Valley reach a state championship game this past December.

The Licking Valley Panthers (7-6) will look to wrap up January on a three game winning streak this Friday with a LCL-Buckeye battle against the Lakewood Lancers (6-8).

The Highland Fighting Scots (1-14) will look to end their nine game losing streak this Friday in a KMAC bout with the Mount Gilead Indians (7-10).
