Dublin Coffman put on a shooting clinic in the second game of the Jared Sullinger Play By Play Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In the second game of the day at the Jared Sullinger Play By Play Classic, Dublin Coffman put on a show from beyond the arc, nailing 11 triples on their way to a convincing 64-47 win over Africentric.

While Dublin Coffman caught fire from deep early on and claimed an 11-6 lead with 2:29 left in the first following a catch and shoot three from Nash Hostetler, Africentric used a tough floater from Eli Burke and a pair of free throws from Josiah Smith to trim the deficit to just 14-10 after one.

Despite Coffman senior Keaton Turner opening up the second with a triple to push the Rocks' lead to 17-10, Africentric quickly answered back as post score from Hervon Jacobs followed by a tip-in from Cali Davis trimmed the deficit to 17-14 with 5:37 left in the frame.

After a mid-range from Austin Morris made it 20-16 in favor of Dublin Coffman, the Rocks used a 7-0 run behind a tough finish from Ajay Sheldon, a triple from Hostetler and a finish off a rim run from Hammond Russell to extend their lead to 27-16 with 1:20 left in the half.

Following four points from sophomore guard Dan Wagner in the last minute of the second, Africentric trimmed the Coffman lead to 27-20 at the break.

While the first three minutes of the third quarter were very back-and-forth with the two squads trading buckets, a 9-1 run from Dublin Coffman behind three triples from Hostetler, Russell and Gavin Headings to push their lead to 40-27 with 3:43 left in the third.

Despite Africentric cutting it back down to 42-35 with 1:25 to go in the frame, the Rocks ended the quarter on a 6-0 run capped off by a layup from Headings just before the buzzer to take a 48-35 lead into the final frame.

Dublin Coffman then dominated the rest of the game, extending their lead to as much as 23 points before allowing Africentric to trim it down in the final few minutes.

The Rocks are back in action next Friday in an OCC-Central showdown with Marysville, who they played an overtime thriller with earlier in the season.

For Africentric, the Nubians will look to get back on track on Tuesday in a favorable matchup against West.

Nash Hostetler (6'3 WG / Dublin Coffman / 2021): Hostetler has proved himself as one of the best perimeter shooters in the area this season and he continued that campaign on Saturday by finishing with a game-high 18 points on five triples. Hostetler picks his spots very well within the offense, has a quick trigger and an extremely pretty stroke from deep. He also finished off a tough finish underneath against Africentric, affected the game on the glass on both ends and showed a good ability to find open teammates off the dribble by kicking to shooters on the perimeter on multiple occasions. Hostetler is a guy who can really change a game with his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter, as Coffman lives and dies by the three at times and could make some noise come tournament time if they have a hot shooting night.

Keaton Turner (6'0 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2020): While today wasn't the best showing from Turner, he still had a solid outing for the Rocks, finishing with 12 points and creating for himself as well as others. Turner knocked down two triples off the catch, had a tough left handed finish while attacking from the corner, and had two impressive coast to coast finishes in which he showed a really good touch on his layups. He also found open teammates on multiple occasions, creating some easy scores both in transition and in the halfcourt throughout the contest as he attracts a lot of defensive attention and knows when to dish it out. Turner has enjoyed an excellent season for Coffman as one of the area's leading scorers and has been a joy to watch on the offensive end.

Ajay Sheldon (5'11 G / Dublin Coffman / 2022): Sheldon is continuing to establish himself as one of the better guards in the 2022 class as he is excelling in his first year of full varsity duty. The sophomore guard had a great showing against Africentric on Saturday, knocking down shots from deep, finding open teammates and getting to the rim for some tough scores. Sheldon has a great handle, good quickness and is one of the most advanced passers in his class, as he made a ton of good reads off the dribble and within the offense to set up some easy buckets for Coffman on Saturday. He knocked down two deep three's off the catch, had a tough finish attacking from the wing with his left hand and defended with a purpose on the perimeter all day long. Ajay has a chance to be the next great guard in a Coffman program that has had some really good ones in recent years as plays with a high IQ and has a very advanced offensive game for his age.

Dailyn Swain (6'5 WG / Africentric / 2023): Swain is oozing with potential and he showed it once again on Saturday. While his scoring numbers don't wow you, he was the most impactful player for the Nubians in the loss to Dublin Coffman, making the correct basketball play each time down the floor. Swain offers elite length and playmaking ability with the ball, as there aren't many young players in the area who can do what Swain does, as he made several great reads on the move, while showing more aggressiveness in the second half as a scorer. Swain had a mid-range score, hit a corner three off the catch and went coast to coast for a very impressive transition score. With his size and youth, Swain has a chance to be the best prospect to roll through Africentric since Houston Smith in 2016.
