Justin Perry, Jayden Lewis, and Keegan Schaub combine for 47 points as New Albany rolls over Big Walnut

SUNBURY, Ohio -- It was a battle between the two Eagles tonight in the OCC-Capital, as New Albany (11-6, 4-3) came out on top after blowing by Big Walnut (10-7, 3-4) by a score of 64-46.

The Eagles of New Albany were led by 6-foot-5 sophomore Justin Perry who had 17 points and four rebounds. Perry turned it on in the second half, scoring 15 of his points and knocking down three triples. The talented forward capped off his excellent performance with two impressive dunks.

New Albany also got 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists from senior guard Jayden Lewis who was incredible on both sides of the ball all night.

Finishing off the trio was senior guard Keegan Schaub who ran the show for New Albany, going for 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.

New Albany jumped out to a quick lead through the play of Lewis and Schaub, who helped their team hold a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. They never lost that lead, as they used their balance offensive attack and strong defense to hold off Big Walnut.

The second quarter was more of the same, as New Albany extended their lead to five to take into the final half. Big Walnut saw most of their production come from junior guard Jared Kreager who also contributed 17 points for his squad, 10 of those coming in the first half.

In the second half, Perry officially flipped his switch on, scoring 15 points and throwing down two big time jams.

Big Walnut forced a timeout with 6:55 left in the fourth quarter when they cut the New Albany lead down to six. New Albany came out of that timeout with an incredible play drawn up and executed it to perfection.

Schaub dribbled to the left wing as Perry received a back screen, and then Schaub threw a dime up to the rim, leaving Perry to the rest. Making a great catch and emphatic dunk, Perry got the entire New Albany crowd onto their feet.

From that point on the visiting Eagles never looked back, getting crucial stops and making their free throws on their way to a huge league win.

New Albany is back in action on Tuesday as they host Olentangy Orange.

Big Walnut will continue their season after a week off, hosting a tough Newark team next Friday.

Justin Perry (6’5 F / New Albany / 2022): Perry put on a show in the second half of tonight’s game and proved why we like him as one of the better underclassmen prospects in the area. The 6-foot-5 sophomore displayed his scoring abilities tonight by knocking down long range shots, hitting mid-range shots off the dribble, and finishing at the rim when he came down with loose rebounds. He also put on display his athletic abilities when he rose up for both of his two-hand slams. Perry is a confident player with a lot of raw talent and potential to be one of the league’s top players by the end of his career.

Jayden Lewis (6’1 G / New Albany / 2020): Lewis played a great game tonight, getting to the rim whenever he wanted, making hustle plays on the glass, and setting his teammates up well for success. He has an extremely quick first step which helps him to get by almost any defender. He was efficient off the dribble tonight and showed mature decision-making on when to continue down the lane and when to shoot the pull-up. We love the hustle and energy Lewis brings to the floor game in and game out.

Keegan Schaub (6’1 PG / New Albany / 2020): Mr. Schaub is a do-it-all point guard that brings lots of excitement to the game whenever he plays. He has incredible vision and instincts that allow him to lead his teammates and set them up for great scoring chances. Schaub can also get a bucket of his own when he needs to, with his physicality and strong handle he showed his capability of getting to the hoop and finishing through contact tonight.

Jared Kreager (6’2 G / Big Walnut / 2021): Kreager played a great game tonight in the loss for Big Walnut. Finishing with 17 points and seven rebounds, Kreager proved he could play at a high level. He was consistently knocking down shots tonight in a variety of ways for the majority of the game. Catch and shoot threes, off the dribble threes, or inside of 15 feet, Kreager put the ball in the basket. He used his strength and big frame to secure rebounds and force New Albany’s players into tough shots throughout the night.
