Behind a big night from Huston Harrah, Fairfield Union took another step toward an MSL-Buckeye title

RUSHVILLE, Ohio -- After starting the season 12-0 ,Fairfield Union had begun to slow down and had gone 1-2 in the past three games. Fairfield Union looked to pick up an MSL-Buckeye win and stay undefeated in the conference. Liberty Union was looking to start a new winning streak and get some momentum in the second half of the season.

The contest between Liberty Union and Fairfield Union was neck and neck up until the fourth quarter. Although the Lions stayed within striking distance the entire game, the Falcons kept a lead the entire time. Senior Huston Harrah had an all around amazing night and an insane first quarter. With the help of senior Chase Poston the Falcons were able to easily shake off the Lion’s chances of winning the game and pulled ahead to a final score of 60-36.

The Falcons started off the game red hot, mainly due to Harrah. Harrah came out of the gates with a punisher mentality and did just that in the paint. Harrah punished every crack the Lions had in their interior defense and exposed it. However, Harrah was not the only hot hand in the first quarter. Sophomore Jacob Denney kept the Lions close scoring seven of his own, including one behind the arc. Huston outpowered the Lions and was able to lead his team to an early lead of 16-14.

The second quarter was quite a bit less scoring and more of a defensive and mistake ridden quarter. The Falcons and Lions were unable to maintain offensive consistency largely due to most of their playmakers and high level scorers on the bench. Although both teams struggled, Denney continued to create some offense for the Lions even if did not compare to what he created in the first. The Lions pulled the game closer once again and were headed into the locker room losing 23-22.

Liberty Union came out of the half looking to do what they do best, break out in the third quarter. However, they were not able to compete with Fairfield Union’s perimeter shooting abilities. The Lions began to slack on the defensive end and began to fall behind. However, all was not lost before the end of the quarter with Fairfield Union holding on to a 36-26 lead.

The Falcons came out in the fourth ready to hit their stride and pull away from Liberty Union. They did just that, outscoring Liberty Union 24-10 in the final period to roll to a blowout win.

Huston Harrah (6’5” C / Fairfield Union / 2020): Huston looked absolutely spectacular out on the court Tuesday and was a jack of all trades for most of the game. Putting up an efficient 23 points and grabbing nine boards, the Fairfield Union star proved his worth once again. Also picking up three assists, three steals, and a block, Huston got it done on both sides of the floor and used his length in the paint to stop everything. Not only was Huston an excellent post player, he also showed flashes of forward skills and drove to the hoop at ease. Huston has a chance to lead this high potential team far into the playoffs, as long as he continues asserting himself in the floor as well as he has.

Chase Poston (6’4” WG /Fairfield Union / 2020): Chase is a vital player on this Fairfield Union team and the perimeter shooting and length he adds as a wing guard insanely improves his team. Poston is one of the most talented players in the MSL-Buckeye, as he excels as both a primary and secondary option on the Falcons depending on who is hot that night. He proved that on Tuesday by dropping 14 points, including two three-pointers. Poston also led the Falcons in assists, contributing four to the team. Poston and Harrah as a senior duo can accomplish big things with this incredible team, as the Falcons will look to be a major threat in Division II this year.
