We take a look at eight standouts from Walnut Ridge and Pickerington North's big wins on Saturday

DAYTON, Ohio -- Day two of the Premier Heath Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational was the first day that any Columbus teams came to town this weekend as Walnut Ridge and Pickerington North both made the drive west to participate in the nationally known event.

Representing the 614 with pride, both squads came out victorious as Walnut Ridge rolled over Paul McMillan and Woodward 87-55 behind a combined 52 points from Von Cameron Davis and Kaveon Ross and Pickerington North held on late to pick up a 62-56 win over a Milton (GA) squad with a pair of young prospects who are nationally ranked in their respective classes.

Let's take a look at the top performers from the day.

Kaveon Ross  (6'4 WF / Walnut Ridge / 2020): Ross stole the show in Walnut Ridge's blowout win over Woodward, leading the Scots with 27 points and continuing his hot streak as he scored 29 in each of their last two games. Ross is an uber athletic 6-foot-4 wing with tools that play both on the interior and on the perimeter. The most impressive thing he did on Saturday was knock down four triples, showing off a ton of confidence in his jump shot as even nailed one with a hand in his face after sizing up his defender with a jab step. He scored some tough buckets near the rim as well, using his size to create space inside and also finishing around the length of Woodward on multiple occasions. Ross is comfortable attacking off the dribble as well as he is a load to handle when coming downhill from the short corner or mid-range area.  He showed off his athletic tools on multiple occasions as he threw down a two-handed jam in transition, caught a backdoor lob, laid in a backdoor lob and threw down a big one-handed hammer after grabbing a steal in the passing lanes. The senior gave Walnut Ridge an excellent presence on the defensive interior as he blocked a pair of shots and altered a handful of others, using his athleticism and length to protect the rim for the Scots. Ross also does the little things well as he cleaned up the defensive glass, grabbed a handful of offensive rebounds and made some great outlet passes to get the break started on Saturday. Division II programs should be all over Ross as he has the tools to make a difference right away and is enjoying a fantastic senior season.

Von Cameron Davis (6'4 WF / Walnut Ridge / 2020): Despite a little bit of a slow start where he missed some looks that we are used to him converting, Davis got it going after halftime and poured in 25 points for Walnut Ridge on Saturday. The senior got things done his usual way in the contest, bodying guys around for tough finishes near the rim, fighting through double teams and cleaning up the glass on both ends of the floor. We were impressed with how he attacked off the dribble in the contest as he continues to sharpen up his handle and drew contact on numerous occasions when penetrating. Davis finished off a handful buckets on the low block and scored a couple times off of the offensive glass, showing off great footwork, using his body to create space and downright having a higher motor than the opposition. Keep an eye on Davis for the rest of the season as he puts up huge scoring numbers night in and night out and has a chance to join CJ Anthony in the 2000 point club by the end of the season.

Jerry Saunders (6'0 WG / Pickerington North / 2022): Saunders put together a really good showing for Pickerington North, going for a game-high 19 points on an extremely efficient 7-11 from the field including 2-2 from beyond the arc. The sophomore guard came up with a few tough finishes in the lane, showing off great body control on a high arcing finish, completing a floater over the length of the defense and finishing through contact with his right hand. Saunders showed no fear in attacking the lengthy Milton interior as he knows how to create clean looks for himself and has a really good touch near the basket. He also hit a mid-range off the dribble from the short corner and nailed two three's off the catch, making the most of his opportunities and showing off a really smooth stroke from deep. Keep an eye on Saunders name in the 2022 class as he's a solid two-way guard who is continuing to improve as a playmaker and a defender.

Hunter Shedenhelm (6'5 WG / Pickerington North / 2020): Coming in fresh off of a 15 point showing in a tough loss to Pickerington Central last night, Shedenhelm was back at it on Saturday as he put together a solid 14 point showing that came with no three-pointers and a 6-8 showing from two-point range. The Ashland commit did some impressive things off the dribble for Pickerington North, blowing by defenders for two easy layups, hitting a tough floater from the elbow and knocking down a mid-range off the dribble with a hand in his face. He also finished a really, really tough right handed layup over the length of Milton that almost looked like a hook shot with the way he used his lanky frame to get it off and completed a smooth up-and-under finish with his left hand off of a backdoor cut. We were really pleased with the showing he had today on that end of the floor as Shedenhelm has the skills to be one of the best scorers in the area when he's making it happen off the dribble due to his deadly three-point shooting ability. He is arguably the best "3 & D" prospect in the area as he can really get after on the defensive perimeter as well with his combination of length and quick feet. Ashland is getting a really good one in the Pickerington North senior.

Qian Magwood (6'1 PG / Walnut Ridge / 2020): While Magwood didn't light up the box score with scoring numbers today, he did exactly what we've grown used to him doing this season as he played some excellent perimeter defense, got others involved and pushed the tempo for the Scots. Magwood has elite speed as he can get from one end of the floor to the other as quickly as anyone in the area, and he uses this to his advantage on both ends of the floor as he has some really quick feet that allow him to excel on the defensive perimeter as well. The senior guard made some good outlet passes to start the break on Saturday and dropped off some really impressive dimes both in transition and in the half court. He has good touch on his passes and always seems to be a step ahead of the defense as he connected on two lobs to Ross and completed a few really impressive bounce passes that he snuck through some very tight windows. Magwood proved to be a tough matchup for Woodward standout sophomore Paul McMillan as well. Despite McMillan putting up some good scoring numbers in the contest, it was not very efficiently as Magwood held him in check for the majority of the contest and made sure every bucket he got was on a really tough look. When Magwood is taking care of the ball and in a groove, Walnut Ridge is as tough to beat as anyone in the area as he compliments Ross and Davis excellently and consistently gets them involved.

Chris Scott (6'4 WF / Pickerington North / 2020): Bulldog. That's the best way to describe Scott. After going for a game-high 24 points and doing everything in his power to try and help his squad pick up a win last night, he played just as hard on Saturday, going for nine points on 3-4 shooting and doing all of the little things for the Panthers. Scott is a very intriguing player as he has physical and athletic tools that allow him to excel both in the low post and on the perimeter. He showed off really good body control on a back door and-one, finished an and-one with his left hand while attacking from the mid-range and made some really good passes out of the post. The senior is as tough as nails and uses that as well as his springy vertical to control the glass on both ends of the floor. Scott impressed as a passer on Saturday, making a pair of good passes in transition, finding open cutters and, as we stated earlier, finding open shooters out of the post. Though he is a Division I football prospect, Scott very well might be the Panthers best player as he brings his motor, toughness and IQ night in and night out.

Casey George (6'0 PG / Pickerington North / 2021): Though Saturday was not George's best showing, we loved how tough he played against Milton freshman sensation Kanaan Carlyle. Casey is as tough as nails and doesn't shy away from competition, as that was exactly the case in his matchup with Carlyle. The 6-foot junior made a couple good passes to open cutters going backdoor and made two really good dump offs underneath when attacking off the dribble, showing off good instincts and vision with the ball in his hands. He scored by way of a three off the dribble, a tough half-spin in the post and a tough finish with his right hand where he split two defenders when attacking off the dribble. George is a heady lead guard who knows how to operate an offense and get others involved. He is a competitor on the defensive end as well as he has the size to hold his own against bigger guards and is improving his lateral quickness. We love George's game and think he has the potential to a be a scholarship prospect at the lead guard spot in the 2021 class.

Myles Garrett (6'3 WG / Walnut Ridge / 2021): Garrett put together a solid showing for Walnut Ridge on Saturday, making the most of his opportunities near the rim, defending hard and playing with a great motor. The junior wing finished a tough and-one in transition after filling the lanes perfectly, used a good hesi to score an easy lay on the low block, finished a tough layup through traffic with his off hand and converted on an easy look underneath from Kaveon Ross. He also made a good drive-and-kick read, made a good outlet pass, and dropped off a good pass to the low block for an easy lay while attacking downhill off the dribble. Garrett is a solid option on the defensive perimeter as well as he has quick feet and simply gives all of his effort, something we saw when he saved a loose ball for an offensive rebound that led to an easy lay up. If the Scots can continue to get good production from Garrett and fellow junior Leon Douglas, they will be one of the toughest outs of anyone in the area come tournament time.
