A look at the top scorers from Friday night action in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The largest game night of the season has come and gone, as Central Ohio was the host to nearly 60 matchups in the area. In all of those games, there was not a player who scored more than Harvest Prep's senior guard CJ Anthony, who is on the verge of doing something that no player, EVER, in the Central District has done.

He took the first big step toward that milestone when he hit a three-point shot for his seventh point against Bishop Rosecrans, which marked the 2,000th for his illustrious career. The Warriors guard has played 97 games in three and a half season, and after going for 32 points to power his team over a Rosecrans squad ranked at No. 1 in Division IV in the state, Anthony is now sitting at 2,025 points for his career - more than any player covered in the entire 270 Hoops era.

Anthony has a strong chance to do what has never been done in Central Ohio and that's finish among the state's top 25 all-time scorers. According to the OHSAA, the Central District has never had a player score more than 2,202 points in a career.

At 2,025 points, Anthony needs to average 22.1 points for the next eight regular season games to become the first player in area history to be placed among the top 25 scorers in Ohio history. That can easily be done as Anthony is averaging 24.8 on the season and will have a less than challenging back half of MSL-Cardinal league play to do it.

To think that we are witnessing a player who is on pace to become the Columbus area's all-time leading scorer is quite special and is something we won't forget for a long time.

Anthony is a pro's pro, as he already has a state title, has been to two state tournaments and is the ultimate leader who is the first to the gym and the last to leave, always coming in with a smile and lifting up the ones around him.

The senior guard is also an elite student, among the top of his class at Harvest Prep and a great brother to his siblings and son to his amazing parents that have supported him every step of the way. When you consider all of these things, it's easy to root for a kid like Anthony because he's always done everything the right way and has been very appreciative for those that have supported him along the way.

So CJ, we are rooting for you here at 270 Hoops and will always be in your corner. Go get that record, young man. You deserve it.

Now let's shift gears and take a look at the rest of the top scorers in the area.

Kaveon Ross (6'6 PF / Walnut Ridge / 2020): For the second-straight game, Ross scored 29 points, this time in a win over Africentric. The beast has officially been unleashed, as Ross is playing the best basketball of his career and has been able to eat on the interior with the strides made to VonCameron Davis' outside game. When Davis went out with his fifth foul in the final minute of a tight game against Hilliard Bradley, Ross stepped up, as the Scots went to him for the game-winning basket. On the final possession of the game, Ross was communicating with his teammates, telling them to "accept the challenge, accept the challenge." The Scots ended up doing that in the win against Bradley and have not lost since. Ross is a scholarship level basketball player who is going to be a monster when he gets into a college strength and conditioning program due to his athleticism, sheer strength and physicality. The senior is genuinely tough, is not opposed to contact and will do anything to lead his team to a win. It's those reasons why we are confident that Walnut Ridge can make history this season in Division I.

Caleb Sheriff (5'11 G / Fredericktown / 2021): The junior Sheriff went off for a career-high 29 points in a big KMAC win over Cardington. Fredericktown has been up and down this season but have won their last three conference games including a 10-point win over division leader Centerburg. Sheriff has been a big part of that, as Friday was just a glimpse of what he might be able to provide down the line for the Freddies.

Javion Williams (6'4 PF / Briggs / 2021): Briggs notched its 10th win of the season as the Bruins hold a firm spot in third place in the City League South, the highest they've been in the last decade. Williams is a big reason for that, as the junior's season-high 28 points helped Briggs go on the road and take down neighborhood rival West. A physical interior player that broke out onto the scene last year, Williams has continued to evolve and has been a major piece of a Briggs team that will be a tough challenge come tournament time with the senior leadership and experience on the roster. When the Bruins are making shots and Williams is cleaning up inside, they are tough to stop and will need their junior work horse to keep playing at an elite level to help them win at least 15 games in a season for the first time since 1998.

Elijah Meredith (6'5 WF / Wellington / 2020): When it comes to improvement, there aren't many seniors in the area who have made a bigger rise than Meredith this season. The 6-foot-5 forward has been playing at an elite level as of late, scoring 51 points in his last two games including 26 in a league win over Bexley. The senior is a powerful athlete with a big, strong build who will be ready to be an instant impact player at the next level. With an elite academic profile and ACT score in the 30s, Meredith is the full package. The senior has become a reliable outside shooter, can handle the ball in transition, is a tough post threat and quality leader for a Jags team that will be a threat to win a district title and more in Division IV. Meredith is being pursued heavily by several Division III programs but is also deserving of looks at the Division II and NAIA levels, as he has become a high quality player who is leading his team to tough wins.

Dorsien Butler (Marion-Franklin / 2021): The junior Butler went off for a career-high 26 points to power the Red Devils over Independence in an important league win for Marion-Franklin. While the Red Devils have mightily struggled the last few years, Butler has helped them notch two league wins and compete at a higher level against the top teams in the City League South.

Bobby Crenshaw (6’0 G / Newark / 2020): 25 points in a win vs. New Albany
Jamonte Wright (6’0 G / International / 2020): 25 points in a loss vs. Northland
Chris Scott (6’2 G / Pickerington North / 2020): 24 points in a loss vs. Pickerington Central
Abdi Gelle (6’4 F / West / 2020): 24 points in a loss vs. Briggs
Dan Lee (Dublin Jerome): 24 points in a win vs. Worthington Kilbourne
Weston Melick (6’3 WG / East Knox / 2021): 24 points in a win vs. Highland
Carson Conley (6’0 PG / Licking Valley / 2020): 24 points in a win vs. Northridge
