OBETZ, Ohio -- In one of the only early games of the day on Saturday, Teays Valley (4-6) took control of things in the second half to run away with a dominant 75-53 league win over Hamilton Township (5-5) on the road.

While Hamilton Township jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead a minute and a half in following a putback and a mid-range from senior Ato Forson, Teays Valley woke up shortly after, using a 10-0 run capped off by an and-one from ​​​​​​​Camden Primmer and a three from ​​​​​​​Adam Benschotter to claim a 12-4 lead with 2:30 left In the first.

Senior guard ​​​​​​​Clayon Knox then hit a big thee for Teays Valley shortly before the buzzer, pushing their lead to 15-7 after one.

The Vikings never looked back after this, as they turned up their play in the second quarter and increased their lead to double digits at 24-12 with 4:45 left in the half following another triple from Benschotter.

​​​​​​​Marquis Moore answered a three from Teays Valley junior Garrett Meddock with a triple of his own right before the buzzer to trim the deficit to just 35-24 at the break.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, they wouldn't get any closer for the rest of the contest.

Teays Valley took all of the momentum that they needed when senior guard ​​​​​​​Riely Weiss scored all seven of his points in the contest on a 7-0 run of his own capped off by a three to take a 48-29 with 3:20 left in the third. 

The Vikings cruised to the win after this, taking a 56-35 lead into the final frame and getting guys who might not see a lot of minutes some time late in the game.

They were led by 19 points from Knox, while Benschotter added 16 of his own. Primmer scored nine and Eli Burgett chipped in with eight, while Weiss went for seven and Meddock contributed six of his own.

They move to 4-6 after the win, breaking a tough losing streak and getting ready for an intriguing matchup on Tuesday when they will travel to Lancaster.

For Hamilton Township, Moore went for 24 and Forson scored 16, while no other player on the Rangers' roster scored more than five points. 

They fall to 5-5 after the tough loss and will be back in action next Tuesday when they play host to Franklin Heights.

Adam Benschotter (6'3 WF / Teays Valley / 2020): Benschotter is a tough customer. The 6-foot-3 wing gives Teays Valley an excellent inside-out presence as he provides toughness on the interior, rebounding and the ability to things done in multiple ways on the offensive end. He knocked down two three's off the catch, took a steal coast-to-coast for a tough finish, and finished off two buckets through contact with his off hand, one of which was an and-one. The senior has broad shoulders and a muscular frame that allows him to defend in the post and be the best rebounder for Teays Valley, but he also really impressed us today with his ability to attack off the dribble, showing off good quickness and a solid handle. Defensively, Benschotter isn't afraid to defend tough guards on the perimeter and can defend practically 2-5 at the high school level thanks to his combination of quick feet, strength and toughness. Small colleges in the area need to take a look at the senior as he will only continue to improve with development.

Clayon Knox (6'2 WG / Teays Valley / 2020): Knox had a really impressive showing for Teays Valley on the offensive end in our first viewing of him on Saturday. The 6-foot-2 guard plays with a good feel, has a reliable handle and is a good decision maker. He hit a three off the catch in the contest and weaved his way to the rim for some tough finishes, showing off a really good touch near the rim with both hands and absorbing contact in order to get clean looks off. We like his creation ability, as the senior can get into his own shot, plays with a lot of confidence, and is a capable scorer from all three levels. He got to the line on multiple occasions as well, not shying away from contact and making the most of his opportunities at the stripe. Knox could most definitely find a fit at a small college in the region as he has some intriguing offensive ability, makes others around him better and is a reliable defender on the perimeter.

Marquis Moore (6'0 G / Hamilton Township / 2020): While Moore had a slow start today, he turned things around in the second half, leading all scorers with 24 points in the contest. The 6-foot guard has a good combination of a tight handle, a buff frame and solid lateral quickness, allowing him to find success off the dribble within the offense. He is forced to do a lot of the offensive creation for Hamilton Township and though he may force things at times, the senior is a reliable playmaker off the bounce. Moore is a much improved jump-shooter from last season as he nailed three triples today to go along with a mid-range off the bounce. While he was more of a downhill attacking guard last year, we're glad to see that he has added this element to his game as it allows him to beat defenders off the dribble much easier by forcing them to come out and defend him. Moore is yet another good small college prospect as he has some impressive skills and could really benefit from the discipline and hard work off a collegiate program.

Riely Weiss (6'0 PG / Teays Valley / 2020): We liked what we saw from Weiss on both ends today as he is a gifted athlete with very good quickness that allows him to excel at the guard spot. Weiss defended hard on the perimeter all day, really making it tough for whoever his matchup was and also did a great job of pushing the tempo in the open floor for the Vikings, showing off some good passing equity both in transition along with inside of the halfcourt offense. He scored by way of two free-throws, a tough finish where he showed really good touch and a three from the corner. He scored all seven of these points consecutively, going on a 7-0 run by himself that really knocked whatever Hamilton Township had left out of them. We like the tools and decision making of Weiss at the guard spot as he has a good IQ to go along with speed and shot-making ability.

Ato Forson (6'0 WG / Hamilton Township / 2020): Despite cooling down in the second half after a rather hot start, Forson still put together a solid 16 point outing today as he and Moore were just about the only thing Hamilton Township could get going on the offensive end. Forson knocked down two three's and hit a mid-range off the bounce, showing off a smooth stroke and the ability to hit shots both off the dribble and catch. He also scored off a putback, finished a tough and-one through contact and got to the rim to draw fouls on a pair of occasions. With a good handle and a bulky frame, the senior can attack smaller guards off the dribble and score through contact and can also get into his own shot off the dribble from all three levels. We are interested to see how the rest of the season plays out for Forson as he has been the Rangers leading scorer so far this year.
