Sean Jones goes for 20 points as Gahanna improves to 12-0

GAHANNA, Ohio -- Gahanna remained unbeaten and knocked off defending regional champion Olentangy Liberty on Tuesday in non-league play 67-52 as Sean Jones, Jarius Jones, and Maceo Williams combined for 46 points.

Liberty used a lightning quick 7-0 run in the third to take their first lead since the first quarter. Momentum had swung heavy in their favor heading into the fourth quarter. That is until sophomore guard Sean Jones buried his third three of the game to give Gahanna a 48-46 lead heading into the final frame.

The Lions are unbeaten for a reason and they showed exactly why as they ROARED, playing some tenacious half court defense and really frustrating Liberty. Their defense and a big time quarter from Williams helped them outscore Liberty 19-6 in the fourth to remain as the only undefeated team in Division I in the area.

For Gahanna, Sean Jones led all scorers with 20 points, Jarius Jones had 14, Williams had 12 and Javan Simmons chipped in with eight points.

For Olentangy Liberty, Ty Foster had 17 points, Cam Barcus had 10 points and Henry Hinkle had eight.

Sean Jones (5’11 G / Gahanna / 2022): For Sean Jones it was just another day at the office as he ran the show and got guys involved, harassed his matchup on ball all night long and came up with timely defensive stops. What really stood out in Jones 20 point performance tonight was the three threes that he knocked down. Not even just the fact that he made them but the confidence that he was shooting them with. Becoming a better long range shooter is something he’s put a lot of work into and it’s paying dividends. For a guard who has an elite  ball handle, high IQ, elite passing vision, great finishing ability and body control around the rim and is a phenomenal on ball defender, seeing him consistently hitting threes should be a nightmare for opposing teams.

Ty Foster (6’2 G / Olentangy Liberty / 2021): Foster was as aggressive as I’ve ever seen him tonight. Starting the game off with a catch and shoot three, he used that to his advantage by attacking closeouts relentlessly and getting to the basket and finishing strong or drawing fouls. We would like to see Foster continue to play with that level of confidence as he wasn’t forceful at all and worked within the offense.

Jarius Jones (6’5 WF / Gahanna / 2021 ): Jones showed off his ability as an off the bounce creator tonight. When the offense would stall at times, Jones would simply break his man down off the dribble and  get to the basket. He knocked down a catch and shoot three as well and ran the floor for some transition baskets. Jones is a really intriguing prospect as a lanky 6-foot-5 wing who should start to pick up some more college interest.

Maceo Williams (6’5 PF / Gahanna / 2021): Williams played really well as his effort level was unmatched tonight. He was a problem all night on the offensive glass whether he pulled it down or tipped the ball to keep it alive for a teammate. He was big time in the fourth with some grown man finishes around the rim that helped seal the deal. Maceo continues to improve as he is leaps and bounds from where he was as a sophomore.

Henry Hinkle (6’0 G / Olentangy Liberty / 2020 ): Hinkle didn’t have his best scoring performance, but he didn’t let that affect his game. He was constantly communicating and rallying his troops when ever he saw anyone get down. He showed off his playmaking ability with a handful of assists and had active hands defensively coming up with a couple of steals.
