Derrick Hardin went for 22 point to help Worthington Christian top St. Charles

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Capital played host to a double-header with the first contest featuring  an intriguing non-conference matchup between Worthington Christian and St. Charles. Lights out shooting from Derrick Hardin helped Worthington Christian knock off St Charles for arguably its top signature win of the year, 60-49.

Worthington Christian used a 19-3 second  quarter run to gain control of the game. St Charles cut the deficit to just two in the third quarter with an 11-4 run of their own. Their momentum would be short lived though as a pair of timely threes from the senior Hardin gave Worthington an eight point lead.

Worthington Christian never looked back as they led by as much as 15 picking up an impressive non conference win.

For Worthington Christian, Hardin led all scores with 22 points while sophomore guard DJ Moore (13 points) and senior forward Nakimba Mullins (12 points) each finished in double figures.

For St. Charles, senior center Vic Searls led the way with 12 points while freshman post Chase Walker had 10 points and sophomore guard Derrick James chipped in nine points.

Worthington Christian is rolling as of late, as the Warriors are at full strength and looking like a team that will compete for a Division III district title and more.

For St. Charles, the Cardinals drop its second-straight game after falling victim to Des Watson and DeSales on Friday night.

Derrick Hardin (6’2 G / Worthington Christian / 2020): Hardin showed why he is regarded as one of the very best sharpshooters in the area. The senior was absolute money from beyond the arc knocking down six threes. If this was 2k he’d certainly have the microwave badge as he can get hot in a hurry. Schools in need of shooting need to take a serious look at the senior, as Hardin has really improved his all-around game and is a legitimate college prospect with major value.

Vic Searls  (6’8 C / St Charles / 2020): Searls made the most of his touches and did a great job of sealing guys and going on to work in the post. He was patient and showed soft touch around the rim. Searls was extremely active on the defensive glass as well, limiting second chance opportunities for Worthington Christian as he clears space and rebounds in his area as well as any post player we've seen this season. Ashland has a good one in the massive 6-foot-8 Searls.

Nakimba Mullins (6’4 F / Worthington Christian / 2020): Mullins provided a spark off the bench bringing high energy for the Warriors in the win. He hit the offensive glass and had a number of strong inside finishes. Mullins, who is brothers with Hardin, is an x factor for Worthington Christian when he has it going, as the Warriors are at their best when the 6-foot-4 senior is also at his best.

DJ Moore (6’3 G / Worthington Christian / 2022): Moore had a good night, as he set the table for his teammates getting them easy looks. He showed off improved shot making ability and improved confidence pulling up for jumpers whenever he was given any space. The sophomore made two catch and shoot shots and was able to get to score it at the rim, as he showed the impressive size and burst that helped him earn MSL-Ohio Player of the Year honors as a freshman, an honor that not many players have garnered in this area over the last decade.
