WORTHINGTON, Ohio -- In the third game of the Stephen Gussler Invitational on Friday, Dublin Coffman used a 29-point third quarter and a barrage of threes to race past Licking Heights.

The Rocks got huge games from senior Keaton Turner, junior Nash Hostetler and sophomore Ajay Sheldon, as the trio combined for 12 threes and more than 50 points in a 77-52 victory.

Coffman will look to keep winning on Saturday when the Rocks take on Reynoldsburg. Licking Heights will look to bounce back against Olentangy Orange.

Keaton Turner (6’1 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2020): The sharp shooting senior Turner was back to his old tricks on Friday, as he powered the Rocks to a big win over Licking Heights. Turner is a special ball handler who creates space as well as anyone in the senior class. Having his way with Licking Heights, Turner did it in every way imaginable, dishing off several dimes, hitting two threes, converting an And-1 finish at the rim and showcasing an elite jab step which he converted into a tough baseline finish off the glass. Turner’s offensive game translates to the next level, as he’s an elite ball handler and equally talented passer, while also being a knockdown three-point shooter. On the defensive end, Turner has quick hands and feet, which he uses to force steals and get going in transition. Turner is deserving of every Division II offer in the region and beyond and should warrant Division I attention as well. He’s not only a scorer but is an efficient playmaker who makes others around him better.

Ajay Sheldon (5’11 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2022): Friday was a bit of a breakout showing for Sheldon, as he got hot in the second half and knocked down four of his game-high five threes. Sheldon always plays with a high motor, creating turnovers both on and off the ball on defense. On the offensive end, Sheldon is a high level passer and shifty ball handler who can change speeds and create separation. Sheldon has deep range as a shooter, draining one of his five threes from NBA range. With a high level IQ and competitive spirit, Sheldon is a player that is always going to make things happen, which when you combine the level in which he shot on Friday, makes him especially effective.

Nash Hostetler (6’3 WF / Dublin Coffman / 2021): While Sheldon had a breakout showing, Hostetler wasn’t far behind, as he hit five threes and finished with 19 points. The 6-foot-3 junior is Coffman’s toughest player, as he is a glass eater, pulling down what was probably 10 rebounds on Friday. Hostetler is a near elite catch and shoot threat from deep, as he hit all five of his triples in spot up situations created off strong drives from Turner, Sheldon and others. With Coffman not having a true big, Hostetler plays the four for the Rocks and is really equipped for that role, as he bangs inside for rebounds, defends the post at a high level and stretches the floor with his sharp-shooting ability. We can’t overstate how tough Hostetler is, as he plays his role and dominates it.

Jaivon Miller (6’1 G / Licking Heights / 2021): In a tough showing for Licking Heights, Miller was a bright spot for the Hornets. We love the way the 6-foot-1 guard attacks off the dribble, as he’s able to change speeds and direction at a high level. Miller had his way getting to the rim, and while he didn’t finish as well as we would have liked, Miller did not let that affect his performance, as he forced four steals, hit a stepback three and had an impressive floater off the glass. Transferring in from Hamilton Township, Miller has been an instant impact guy for Licking Heights and really helps them with his ability to create his own shot off the bounce.

Gavin Headings (6’5 WF / Dublin Coffman / 2023): Playing a large chunk of minutes off the bench, Headings amazed us once again with his special ball handling and passing ability at his size. The 6-foot-5 freshman is a wizard with the ball, as we haven’t seen a player of his size that handles and passes on the move like he does. Headings has great length, broad shoulders, a knockdown shot and plenty of offensive tools that will make him one of the most versatile players in the area as time goes on. The freshman has a great feel, always making the right pass and is equally as tough off the ball on defense where he forced two steals. This is a player to keep an eye on, as he has big-time potential and might not be done growing as he’s added two inches since the summer.

Judah Spears (6’1 WF / Licking Heights / 2020): While he did not score very much at all on Friday, we loved the motor and effort that Spears gave the Hornets on the defensive end. Coming up with three chasedown blocks, a steal and a tough tip-in, Spears gave the Hornets every ounce of energy he had on each end of the floor. Any time we can highlight a guy like Spears, we try to, as he was one of the toughest players in the game. The 6-foot-1 forward is a terrific athlete with a lengthy frame, as we see him continuing to help this Hornet program in a rebuilding year under promising first year coach Shaun Fountain.
