Fairfield Union dominates Logan Elm in MSL-Buckeye play behind a big night from Huston Harrah

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Starting the season off hot at 4-2, the Logan Elm Braves looked to pick up an important win against undefeated Fairfield Union on Saturday. The Falcons showed up with defensive tenacity and a strong offensive performance from senior Huston Harrah as they took down the Braves 60-38.

Within the first 3 minutes of the game, Harrah scored eight points in a 10-0 run by the Falcons. Harrah continued his offensive dominance by scoring or assisting on 15 of the first 17 points scored by the Falcons.

Logan Elm was held to two points for the first five minutes of the contest largely due to the length of the Falcons and activity in the passing lanes. In the final three minutes of the first, Logan Elm pulled within 11 thanks to slowing the ball down and hitting a corner three at the buzzer.

Throughout the second, the Braves kept the Falcon’s offense at a standstill. As the Braves pushed the envelope to attempting a comeback, the three-point line was where they had their most success in the first half as senior Luke Baldwin hit four.

The end of the second consisted of neither team establishing an offensive rhythm and the defense of Fairfield Union continuing to lock down the Braves.

With Logan Elm holding off the Falcons for a quarter, they shortened the lead to nine and headed into the locker room trailing 31-22..

The Falcons started off the third quarter blazing with a quick stop by the works of a block from Harrah. They went down court and got consecutive buckets on the interior and stretched the lead to 14 shortly after.

Throughout the third, the Braves began to chuck up three-pointers in an attempt to shorten the lead but instead allowed the Falcons to bring the lead to 20 at the end of the frame.

The Falcons went into the fourth in an offensive groove and with the mindset to grab another win as they led 47-27.

The offense started out slow for both teams with only six total points being scored in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. Four of the points came from Harrah, who continued to be a catalyst on both sides of the floor for Fairfield Union.

As both teams slowed the ball down, the win was locked down for the Falcons, as it became apparent that they are an outright powerhouse in the MSL-Buckeye and they have no plans on looking back.

Behind 25 points from Harrah and amazing defensive work by the Falcon’s team as a whole, they cruised to this win.

Huston Harrah (6’5 WF / Fairfield Union / 2020): Harrah was by far the best player on the court from the tip to the final buzzer by a huge margin as he went for 25 points and put up another double-double. Harrah was dominant in the paint, especially in the first half, getting almost everything that left his hands in the bucket. On the defensive end, he, along with the other lengthy players on the Falcon’s side, stopped everything that entered the paint. With the two-way work done by Harrah, there was never a chance for Logan Elm to win the game as long as he was on the court. Harrah has continued to be a consistent offensive piece for the Falcons putting up four or more points in each quarter.

Luke Baldwin (5’11 G / Logan Elm / 2020): Baldwin was the sole reason the Braves still had a chance to win going into the second half. Draining four three-pointers in the first half for the Braves, he scored more than half of his teams points by halftime. With the shooting capabilities of Baldwin, he would be an amazing addition to any team in need of a knock down shooter. Hitting five three-pointers on the night, Baldwin was the closest thing the Braves had to consistency on Saturday.
