DeSales junior Desmond Watson dominated Friday's CCL matchup with 30 points

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Desmond Watson, welcome to the big time. Scoring 28 of his game-high 30 points after the first quarter, Watson helped DeSales (5-1, 3-0) overcome a 22-8 first quarter deficit to take down Bishop Ready (2-2, 0-1) on the road, 63-54.

While Ready came out guns blazing, knocking down five threes in a 22-8 first quarter, DeSales took the game over in the final 24 minutes. Going to Watson for 15 points in the second quarter alone, DeSales opened up the flood gates in the period, outscoring Ready 25-14.

The game seemed to change midway through the second quarter when Bishop Ready junior guard Azzan Daniels picked up his third foul. With Daniels out of the game and Ready down a reliable ball handler and playmaker, DeSales shut down the Silver Knight offense.

Ready junior Darius Parham came out of the gates hot, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. With Watson defending him the rest of the way, the DeSales junior got the best of his counterpart, holding Parham for 10 points the rest of the way.

Outscoring Bishop Ready 55-32 in the final three quarters, the Stallions went to Watson who powered them all the way through. DeSales got great production from its entire starting five, as sophomore wing Atticus Schuler had a breakout showing with 11 points. The 6-foot-4 sophomore was a matchup problem for Ready due to his size and versatility.

Senior guard Kobe Righter also finished in double figures with 10 points, while junior guard Austin Mann and senior forward Chris Fleisher combined for 12 points. Fleisher did an amazing job on the offensive glass in the fourth quarter, pulling down four boards that led to crucial second chance points.

For Ready, Parham led the way with 20 points, knocking down three triples and a handful of mid-range jumpers. While he got off to a blazing start, Parham looked gassed midway through the second half, which ultimately had a big impact in the game.

Senior guard Brock Baker had a strong scoring night, going for 17 points, 12 of which in the first half. Junior guards Garrison Budd and PJ Daniels combined for 17 points, while Azzan Daniels was held scoreless and limited with foul trouble.

For DeSales, the Stallions pick up another key CCL win, as they've defeated every league opponent aside from St. Charles, who they have yet to play. The Stallions will return to the floor on Saturday when it hosts Tri-Valley in non-league action.

For Ready, the Silver Knights can get back to its winning ways in 16 hours when they host Fairland in non-league play.

Desmond Watson (6'5 WG / DeSales / 2021): The junior Watson has been on a rampage to begin the season, as he posted another monster 30-point game after beginning the year with a career-high 39 points in a win over Huber Heights Wayne. The 6-foot-5 junior is excelling on the wing, as DeSales has handed over its offense to him and he's taken it in stride. Getting to the rim at will, Watson showed an amazing ability to create off the bounce, as he has greatly improved both as a ball handler and mid-range shooter. We might have been most impressed with Watson's perimeter defense, as his length, athleticism and foot speed made it really tough for Parham to create his own looks against him, as the DeSales junior might have won the game with his performance on defense more so than his masterful scoring performance. In transition, Watson is a relentless scorer that used an elite euro step on three different occasions to create in the open floor. We love how efficient Watson has become, as he didn't force the issue, let the game come to him and hit high percentage shots. The junior has a great feel, is the ultimate competitor and showcased high-level athleticism on two big dunks that brought the house down. With Division I programs beginning to hit his line, Watson is a no-brainer mid-major prospect who has a chance to develop into one of the state's best prospects with the current incline he's been on.

Darius Parham (6'3 WG / Bishop Ready / 2021): In a matchup of the two best juniors in the Central Catholic League, Parham brought his A-game in the first half against Watson. The 6-foot-3 guard came out on fire, knocking down his first three shots including two catch and shoot triples. Parham has become one of the most skilled players in the area, as he has a ton in his bag of tricks. In the mid-range, Parham can really create his own shot, especially off the bounce as he did so on multiple occasions. Making his mark in this Ready program as a freshman with his tough rebounding, Parham has clearly not lost that part of his game, as he had another strong showing on the offensive and defensive glass. We really love the strides that Parham has made as a perimeter player, as he's a reliable ball handler, shooting and playmaker. With a high IQ and strong feel, Parham makes a huge impact thanks to his toughness and motor, as he was the best player on the floor for stretches in the first half before losing some steam in the second half. We look forward to watching Parham more this season, as he is one of the most well-rounded players in Central Ohio.

Atticus Schuler (6'4 WG / DeSales / 2022): An alum of both The Intro and the 270 Hoops Fall League open division, Schuler is a young player that we have seen develop over the last year and a half. In the midst of a growth spurt that has seen him add nearly six inches, Schuler is an intriguing young prospect that offers a great blend of length, finesse and scoring ability. Schuler was a matchup problem for Ready, as the Silver Knights simply didn't have the bodies for him, as he took advantage of smaller defenders with Watson commanding the attention of Ready's best defender Parham. Schuler found his way to the rim, moved very well off the ball to get himself open, was a factor on the glass and made things happen in the open floor. The 6-foot-4 sophomore is a consistent shooter who has become a threat to score it off the bounce, which will serve DeSales well going forward as Watson will need consistent help for this team to reach its potential.

Brock Baker (6'1 G / Bishop Ready / 2020): The senior guard Baker had a bit of a breakout showing in the loss. Grabbing rebounds and pushing the break, Baker finished with 17 points in a strong outing. Knocking down three triples and finding his way to the rim with impressive slashing ability, Baker was the only consistent scoring threat that Ready had outside of Parham. However, much like Parham, Baker was limited in the second half as DeSales was intent to slow down the Silver Knight duo. An alum of the 270 Hoops Fall League open division, Baker has been one of the better late rising seniors that we've become accustomed to in the last year.

PJ Daniels (6'2 G / Bishop Ready / 2021): Big guard who affected the game with his physicality, rebounding and toughness. While Daniels struggled to shoot, he provided Ready with another playmaker outside of Parham.

Kobe Righter (5'10 G / DeSales / 2020): The most experienced player in the game, Righter had a decent complimentary scoring game, finishing with 10 points. The senior has been around the block a few times and will provide this team with valuable buckets all season long when they need them.

Garrison Budd (6'0 G / Bishop Ready / 2021): Glue guy for Ready. Makes things happen on both ends, always plays controlled and can stretch the floor with his three-point shot. Budd makes the extra pass, is unselfish and makes winning plays. Will need to step into a bigger scoring and playmaking role, as he's capable of having a bigger impact for this Ready team.

Austin Mann (5'8 G / DeSales / 2021): While undersized, Mann is a tough as nails guard who impressed us with his handle and effort. Mann emerged last season as a three-point marksman but was most effective on Friday with his excellence at the free-throw line, going 6-for-6 and helping spark the second quarter rally that changed the game.
