We take a look at Tuesday's games in the City League

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- City League play tipped off for the season on Tuesday. Let's take a look at the action all across Columbus.

City League south

Walnut Ridge 79, Africentric 52

VonCameron Davis scored 33 points as Walnut Ridge blew past Africentric on the road. The Scots won every quarter, outscoring the host Nubians by 22 points from the third quarter on to pull away with a big victory.

Africentric sophomore Dan Wagner scored 19 points in the loss, the only Nubian with more than nine points in the game.

Walnut Ridge will host Eastmoor on Friday in a classic rivalry. For Africentric, the Nubians will host South in another big-time showdown.

Briggs 84, West 53

Briggs scored 74 points through three quarters, rolling over rival West at home on Tuesday. The Bruins got big contributions from nearly its entire roster, as six players scored at least six points led by 24 from junior Javion Williams.

West was led by 21 points from senior forward Abdi Gelle.

Briggs will head to Independence on Friday. For West, the Cowboys will host Marion-Franklin on Friday. 

South 71, Eastmoor 39

South came out with intensity, leading Eastmoor 57-19 after three quarters of play to cruise to a blowout win on the road. 10 players scored for the visiting Bulldogs, as Taquan Simington, Shemar Lindsey, Tyrique Hawkins and J'Lawntee Dean each finished in double figures.

Senior Julian Binford powered the majority of the Eastmoor offense with 15 points in the loss.

With the win, South will hit the road once more and pay a visit to Africentric. For Eastmoor, the Warriors will host rival Walnut Ridge on Friday. 

Marion-Franklin 59, Independence 49

Despite trailing 16-13 after a quarter of play, Marion-Franklin turned up the pressure in the final three quarters to start City League play with a win at home against Independence.

Damien Scales led all Red Devil players with a game-high 15 points, as three Marion-Franklin contributors finished in double figures. For Independence, junior guard Keyshawn Harris had a team-high 17 points in the loss.

With the win, Marion-Franklin will look to make it two in a row when it hits the road and travels to West on Friday. Independence will host Briggs on Friday as the Sixers look to bounce back. 

City League North

Beechcroft 95, Centennial 66

Sophomore forward Amani Lyles scored a career-high 23 points as Beechcroft made a statement on the road at Centennial to open up league play. Lyles, sophomore JJ Simmons and seniors Davon Wooden and Trayvaughn McConnell combined for 72 points to power the Cougars.

For Centennial, junior guard Tyreek Gunnell had a team-high 14 points in the loss.

Beechcroft will be on the road once again on Friday, heading to East. For Centennial, the Stars will head to rival Whetstone on Friday.

Mifflin 55, Linden-McKinley 53

Mifflin won its fourth-straight game by knocking off Linden-McKinley at home on Tuesday. Senior guard Jakai Watts continued a recent hot streak with a game-high 24 points to power the Punchers.

For Linden, sophomore guard LA Walker led the Panthers with 15 points in the loss.

Linden will get a winnable game on Friday when it hosts International. For Mifflin, the Punchers will pay a visit to rival Northland on Friday in another important matchup. 

Whetstone 58, east 47

Caleb Brigle and Jaden Arledge combined for 42 points as Whetstone picked up a big win on the road at East on Tuesday. No Tiger player scored in double figures in the loss, as senior Cedric Norvett led all East players with eight points.

Following the win, Whetstone will play rival Centennial on Friday at home. East will look to bounce back as it takes on Beechcroft at home on Friday.

Northland 103, International 40

Senior forward Eldon Boateng scored a career-high 26 points, while sophomore Robert Dorsey tacked on 20 as Northland rolled to a blowout win at International, its first win on the former Brookhaven campus since 2013.

International senior Jamonte Wright continued a great senior season with 20 points in the loss.

While Friday's game was never in doubt, Northland will have a tougher challenge at home on Friday when the Vikings host rival Mifflin. For International, the Lions hit the road and take on Linden-McKinley.
