Liberty Union delivered the upset of the early season by knocking off Grandview Heights

BALTIMORE, Ohio -- Whether it's a Friday night in Worthington or a Monday night in Baltimore, you can expect for fireworks in Central Ohio when it comes to high school basketball.

Fireworks are what we got on Monday when Liberty Union knocked off Grandview Heights, using an 18-7 first quarter and a game-winning driving score from Jared Ison to hand the Bobcats its first loss of the season.

Despite 35 points from senior guard Brian Collier, Grandview could not string together the stops it needed to pull off the win on the road. Could the Bobcats have been caught looking ahead to Friday's showdown against Worthington Christian? That's anybody's guess, but Monday's win was huge for a Liberty Union program that proved once again that the MSL-Buckeye is nothing to mess with.

The Lions were led by 12 points each from Jacob Berlekamp and Nick Congrove, while Ty Boggs and Ison combiend for 19 points.

Let's take a look at the results from the rest of the area.

Worthington Christian 64, Bloom-Carroll 37

In another MSL-Ohio vs. MSL-Buckeye showdown, Worthington Christian went on the road and handled business against Bloom-Carroll. Monday saw the return of sophomore guard DJ Moore, who scored nine points in his debut. The Warriors were led by another strong game from senior guard Derrick Hardin who led all scorers with 22 points.

For Bloom-Carroll, the Bulldogs were led by junior wing Ryan Williams, who went for 17 points.

Newark Catholic 53, Grove City Christian 40

In his first big game for the Green Wave, sophomore Cole Canter went for a career-high 22 points to power Newark Catholic over Grove City Christian at home, 53-40. Canter, who transferred in from Bishop Ready, was one of three Newark Catholic players to score at least eight points on Monday.

Grove City Christian has now lost its third game in the last five games after falling to Worthington Christian and Harvest Prep late last week. Senior Brayden Holbrook led the Eagles with 11 points.

Delaware Christian 51, Liberty Christian 43

Four players scored in double figures for Delaware Christian in a 51-43 home win over Liberty Christian. Sophomore guard Dayne Johnson went for 16 points to power the Eagles, while Pryce Johnson, Nathan Stewart and James Vasek each added 11 points.

Delavontae Jackson continued a dominant senior season with 23 points, however, Liberty Christian struggled to find any other offense outside of its star guard, as no other player had more than four points.

Fisher Catholic 61, Crooksville 53

Fisher Catholic used a 24-14 fourth quarter to race past Crooksville at home on Monday, 61-53. The Irish got a big game from senior Bryson Vogel, whose 22 points led all scorers. Alex Bronden and Josh Burke combined for 23 points for the Irish who are off to a 3-0 start heading into a big-time matchup against rival Berne Union later in the week.
