Pickerington North 62, Linden 45

Coming off a loss to a high quality team in Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary on Saturday, Pickerington North was determined to avoid an 0-2 slide. While the host Linden Panthers kept it close in the first half, playing on the road was not a problem for North, pulling away in the second half for a 17-point win.

Casey George led North with a career-high 22 points, as the junior guard has been hot out of the gate to begin the year. Three other North players were in double figures, as seniors Hunter Shedenhelm and Chris Scott and sophomore Dior Conners combined for 35 points in the win. North will take a week off until its next game at home against Westland in non-league play next Tuesday. The Panthers were slated to take on rival Pickerington Central on Friday, however, due to the Tigers’ football team playing for a state title that night, the Picktown showdown has been pushed back to Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Linden was coming off a great first win against Dayton Dunbar last Saturday and juniors Shamarion Rogers and Chance Groce didn't skip a beat, both scoring 11 in the loss. Unfortunately that was not enough for Linden, suffering their first loss of the season. Linden’s next game is away at Mifflin next Tuesday to begin City League North play.

Marysville  59, Hilliard Darby 41

If you didn’t know him already, Jack Christian is the name you are going to want to know after Tuesday. The junior guard opened up his season blazing hot, hitting six threes and scoring 28 points to lead Marysville to a road win at Hilliard Darby.

The Monarchs got big production from its junior post Garrett Taylor, who finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

While Darby led after a quarter of play, the Panthers could not control the rest of the game, as Marysville pulled away in the final three frames. Marysville will look to remain hot as it opens up OCC-Central play on the road at Westland on Friday.

For Darby, the Panthers didn’t have a single player in double figures, as sophomore Gio Roberts and senior Josh Carney led the way with nine points each. Darby will begin its OCC-Cardinal journey on the road at Delaware Hayes on Friday.

Briggs 68, Franklin Heights 38

A common theme Tuesday for the OCC was road teams coming out on top. Briggs came out hot in the first, ending the quarter 13-4 and never looked back, rolling over west side rival Franklin Heights by 30 points.

Domenic Farley scored 19 points in Briggs’ previous game at Worthington Kilbourne and stayed “en fuego” scoring 21 points on Tuesday. Another strong showing from senior Andrew Grubbs paced the Bruins and helped Briggs improve to 2-0 with road wins against OCC competition. Briggs will be back at home on Wednesday when it hosts Olentangy in another City League-OCC showdown.

The bright spot for Franklin Heights on Tuesday was the 13-point outing from senior guard Mo Fofana, who is going to be expected to carry a large part of the load for the Golden Falcons. Franklin Heights will look to get its first win when it hosts Groveport on Friday in OCC-Capital play.

River Valley 59, Olentangy Berlin 48

A trio to be reckoned with at River Valley? You read that right, three juniors by the names of Ethan Bell (15 points), Klayton Kenney (15 points) and Dylan Johnson (14 Points) powered the Viking offense as River Valley took down Olentangy Berlin for the second-straight season.

This game wasn’t as close as the score would suggest, as Berlin won the fourth quarter 17-4. Junior Austin Corley had 16 points and sophomore Adrian Stone added 10 points in the loss for the Bears.

Olentangy Berlin will open up OCC-Cardinal play on Friday as it hosts Dublin Scioto.

River Valley looks to stay undefeated traveling to Galion Saturday in MOAC play.

Newark 62,  Westerville South 57

Newark grabbed their first win of there season after suffering a dramatic home loss in their previous game against Dublin Jerome. It was another nail-biting game for the Wildcats in their battle against the fellow Wildcats from Westerville South. Needing overtime to knock off Westerville South, Newark avoided a rare 0-2 start.

Seniors Jaden Woods and Bobby Crenshaw and junior Kade Bafford combined for 40 of Newark’s 62 points in the overtime win. Westerville South did not make it easy for Newark with Peter Podrozo scoring 16 and junior Jaden Guice and senior Stephon Saint-Cyr combining for 21.

Newark opens OCC-Capital play on Friday when it travels to New Albany. For Westerville South, the Wildcats will host Olentangy on Friday to open up OCC-Buckeye play.

Olentangy Orange 57, Delaware Hayes 43

The Pioneers get to add one to the win column starting the season off right with a 14-point win over visiting Delaware Hayes. Both junior guard Andre Irvin and senior wing Ryan Cutler started where they left off from last year’s district runner up season, with 13 points from Irvin and 19 from Cutler. It was a tight game after the first but the Pioneers took things under control in the second and keeping its lead for the rest of the game.

Delaware Hayes senior Paul Burris scored 18 in the loss as the Pacers were without senior guard Nate Griggs, its leading returning scorer from last season.

A major battle for the Pioneers looms on Friday against district and OCC-Buckeye rival Olentangy Liberty. Orange was the only team in the conference to beat the Patriots a year ago when Liberty stormed to the state tournament.

The Pacers will look to grab their first win of the season on Friday home against Hilliard Darby to open up OCC-Cardinal play.

Worthington Kilbourne 36, Bishop Watterson 33

A defensive battle took place on Cooke Road between Worthington Kilbourne and Bishop Watterson. In a game where points were hard to come by, Kilbourne prevailed in the end, squeaking out a 36-33 victory on the road.

At the half, it looked as if Watterson had things under control, holding the Wolves to a single point in the second period, marking the second time in six quarters that Kilbourne had been held without a field goal.

Kilbourne put together a tremendous comeback in the second half to pull out the road win. Sophomore guard Ayden Parsons led the Wolves with 12 points while Watterson was led by senior Michael Bruzzese’s 12.

Bishop Watterson will travel to DeSales on Friday to open Central Catholic League play, as the Eagles will have a difficult battle on its hands against area leading scorer Desmond Watson.

Worthington Kilbourne heads back home for an OCC-Cardinal opener against Dublin Jerome on Friday.

Canal Winchester 55, Dublin Scioto 49

This game was back and forth all night but a solid second and third quarter for Canal Winchester helped them notch their first win of the season at Dublin Scioto.

Jack Beeler was a walking bucket, scoring a career-high 25 points which included seven threes. Beeler’s performance was much needed with Canal’s top two options in Bilal Sow and Cole Metzler being limited to 17 points.

Benni Lombardo led Dublin Scioto with 16 points as two other Irish players finished in double figures.

Canal Winchester will start OCC-Capital play Friday on its home floor against Big Walnut.

Scioto will travel to Olentangy Berlin on Friday to start OCC-Cardinal action.

Westerville Central 58, Desales 41

A magnificent performance for Westerville Central was put on display against DeSales, as the Warhawks used a 23-4 first quarter to pull away for a double-digit win. A great team effort included 11 from both junior Quincy Cook and senior Will LeMaire, who led the way for Central.

For the Stallions, junior Desmond Watson followed up his career-high 39-point showing against Huber Heights Wayne with a solid 19 on Tuesday. DeSales will look to get back in the win column on Friday as it hosts rival Watterson to begin CCL play.

Following the win, Westerville Central will look to improve to 3-1 on the season when it hosts Westerville North to kickstart OCC-Buckeye play on Friday.

Logan 50, Lancaster 47

Logan edged out Lancaster in a battle for Route 33 on Tuesday. The Gales will look to bounce back on Friday as it heads to Grove City, the only team it beat in OCC-Ohio play a season ago, to begin its league slate.
