We take a look at some of the top workers from Sunday's Week 3 action

GROVEPORT, Ohio -- There's an old saying that goes "the harder I work, the luckier I get." That has been true through three weeks of the 270 Hoops Fall League, as the hardest workers have been rewarded in the form of wins, points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, charges taken, write ups, exposure and more.

Let's take a look at some of Week 3's top grinders.

Seniors

Hervon Jacobs (6’4 PF / Africentric / 2020): Jacobs continues to do all the little things that will allow him to see the floor as a senior. He was load to handle on the glass again, pulling down five rebounds and adding a block. On an Africentric team with great guards, the Nubians will need Jacobs to step up in the front court and we think he's capable of doing just that.

Ben Wilhelm (6’4 PF / Westerville Central / 2020): Ben had his fingerprints all over the game. He scored five points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and came up with two steals. Wilhelm is a great teammate and a guy that you need to build a positive culture within your team. We’d take him on our squad any day of the week.

Eric Panning (6’8 PF / Westland / 2020):  Panning had a good game running the floor really well and being rewarded. He finished with nine points and six rebounds. Panning has made a ton of growth over the years and we look forward to what the senior will do this winter.

Fred Wilkes (5’10 G / Upper Arlington / 2020): In his second week of filling in on an invite only roster, we liked the way Fred played with a good attitude, made the right plays and didn’t try to overdo things in order to make a lasting impression. He combined to go for 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals as he was a pivotal part in both of his team’s wins even though the stat sheet may not look that way. We like how Wilkes competes on both ends and is willing to take on any matchup which will serve him well this season as he’ll be a key part of the Golden Bears rotation in the backcourt.

Keegan Schaub (6’1 WG / New Albany / 2020): We’ve covered Schaub extensively already, but he deserves another nod for his tough defense and work on the glass. The 6-foot-1 guard was a terror on the boards once again, pulling down five offensive rebounds on Sunday to lead Ohio State. It’s no secret how he earned first team All-OCC honors last year. The kid works.

Juniors

Azzan Daniels (6’1 PG / Bishop Ready / 2021): Daniels played excellent on ball defense really showing off his lateral quickness. On offense he was unselfish looking to feed guys finishing with four assists. Daniels is one of the very best perimeter defenders and passers in the 2021 class who has also shot the hall extremely well from the perimeter the last few weeks.

Elijah Hinton (6’6 PF / Newark / 2021): Hinton was all over the glass finishing with three offensive rebounds and five total. The lengthy Newark junior has been one of the top stock rising prospects we’ve seen since our first real viewing of him in June.

Jalen Sullinger (5’11 PG / Thomas Worthington / 2021): Sullinger did a little bit of everything as he scored nine points, dished out four assists and was able to pull down four rebounds as well. The junior guard still has plenty of upside, as his father, JJ Sullinger, mentioned that Jalen is the same size he was at that age. With JJ stretching out to 6-foot-5 before going on to play at Ohio State, a similar trajectory for Jalen could be promising as the young guard is as talented as they come offensively already.

Matt Kennedy (5’8 PG / Olentangy / 2021): Kennedy was able to move the ball and get guys involved, defensively he was really active in the passing lanes. He finished with three assists and two steals for the Pacers. When you watch the junior, his effort always stands out, as he goes 110 percent for every second he’s on the floor.

Ryan Magill (6’3 WG / Fairfield Union / 2021): Magill constantly sprinted in transition for easy lay up opportunities and played the right way making extra passes. Defensively he was all over the place making things difficult for opposing players. He finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists. Look for the junior to be one of the MSL’s top stock risers this winter.

Gabe Chalfin (6’0 WG / Logan Elm / 2021:) Chalfin was the straw that stirred the drink for the Pacers. He was able to score himself  but also get others involved. He set the tone with his toughness and defense and the team fed off him. He finished with 12 points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal.

Tabari Howard (6’2 G / Westerville South /2021) The effort level that Howard brings to the table each week is going to make it very hard for coach Ed Calo to keep him off the floor this winter at Westerville South. He locked down on the perimeter again coming up with two steals. He also added four points, five rebounds and two assists.

Anthony Millner (6’0 PG / Canal Winchester / 2021): Millner was very impressive for the 76ers in our viewing of them, showcasing his quick hands and strong perimeter defense. The Canal Winchester junior made it tough for opposing ball handlers to get things going which helped his team pick up a big win.

Isaac Settles (6’5 WG / Thomas Worthington / 2021): Settles had his best showing of the fall league and he did it all with his effort. Sprinting the floor hard, attacking the glass and providing strong perimeter defense, Settles was invaluable in helping Duke go 2-0. We were impressed with the effort level of the junior, as he impacted the game on both ends without scoring.

Andrew Wade (6’4 WF / Olentangy Liberty / 2021): At a lengthy 6-foot-4, Wade did an excellent job of cleaning up the glass on Sunday as he combined for 18 rebounds in two wins. The junior is always looking to get interior position and also fills empty lanes excellently when looking to soar in for a rebound from the perimeter. Wade is a really high IQ offensive player who can pass, stretch the floor and attack the rim. He can frustrate opposing wings as his combination of length and quickness allow him to disrupt ball handlers and prevent them from getting where they want to be. We really like Wade’s potential on the wing and expect him to be an important contributor to an Olentangy Liberty team who’s looking to win another OCC-Buckeye title after losing their all-time best player in Ben Roderick.

Sophomores

Liam Sachs (6’1 F / Teays Valley/ 2022): Liam has a really strong build already and he uses his strength to bang on the boards, as he finished with seven rebounds and seven points, playing a key role in the Warriors’ overtime win.

Dylan Thompson (6’0 WG / Buckeye Valley / 2022):  Thompson wreaked havoc all game long for the Nets. He owned the passing lanes coming up with three steals. He also had a block on a great rotation and finished off with 11 points and three rebounds in a great showing. Look for the sophomore to be a big part of what could be a promising season for Buckeye Valley in the MOAC.

Mason Stuck (6’6 PF / Ridgemont / 2022): Stuck dominated the glass coming up with nine rebounds. He blocked a shot , found teammates with three assists and scored five points of his own. Stuck has been one of our favorite stock rising bigs in the open league.

Landon Newland (6’3 WF / Ridgemont / 2022): Newland can always be found grabbing rebounds and finishing around the basket. That was the case this week as he finished with ten points and four rebounds. Newland is solid in many areas of the game and has been consistently good for the entirety of the fall league.

Ajay Sheldon (5’11 PG / Dublin Coffman / 2022): Although he wasn’t able to get going by scoring, Sheldon still impacted the game as he pulled down four rebounds amongst the trees. He played good defense and always made the extra pass. Through three weeks, Sheldon is the only player under 6-foot to rank among the league’s top rebounders.

Amari Gaston (6’2 WF / Bishop Hartley / 2022): Gaston was impressive for the Cavaliers, boxing out, rebounding hard and making the correct reads on the offensive end. We see him being one of the better standout sophomores in the CCL this winter for a Hartley team who could greatly use his contributions.

Aidan Dring (5’11 WG / Dublin Coffman / 2022): Dring did a little bit of everything in a tough one point loss to the Lakers as the 5-foot-11 sophomore was all over the floor finishing with three points, two rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Dring is aggressive on both ends, loves to compete on the defensive perimeter and can run an offense or operate on the wing, all things he put on display Sunday. As his Blazers squad has had their ups and downs throughout the fall, Dring has stood out each week for his constant effort and leadership.

Jevin Beard (6’1 WG / Buckeye Valley / 2022): We really liked the way Beard crashed the glass and attacked off of the bounce on Sunday. He combined for 19 points and 11 rebounds in two games to go along with three steals. The 6-foot-1 wing plays with extreme amounts of confidence, can start the break after hitting the glass and does a good job of making intelligent reads in the open floor. We like how Beard is always in attack mode and looking to make plays. He will play a pivotal role this winter for a Buckeye Valley team with guys like Dylan Herbert ad Dylan Thompson who will complement Beard in the backcourt very nicely.

Trey Majidzadeh (5’11 WG / Olentangy Liberty / 2022): Majidzadeh was the reason that his overmatched Bucks team stayed fairly close to a loaded Raptors team on Sunday as he played with no fear and got things done on both ends. He scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds and added a steal just shortly after dropping in 11 points in a win over the Hawks. Majidzadeh plays at a good pace, gets teammates involved and can always be found hustling for loose balls and rebounds. We’ll be interested to see where he fits into an Olentangy Liberty program with a ton of youth this winter.

Freshmen

Luke Kuhlman (6’2 WG / Dublin Jerome / 2023): Kuhlman took care of things on the glass coming down with six rebounds and he added eight points as well. Kuhlman is a high IQ guy that just seems to always be in the right spots.

Hezekiah Russell (5’8 PG / Delaware Hayes / 2023): Despite his height, Russell made his presence felt on the glass coming up with five rebounds, a steal and his only two points were to win the game in overtime for the Warriors. Look for Russell to make an impact at Hayes early on in his career.

Maurice Charlton (6’3 PF / Gahanna / 2023): Charlton ran the floor well and hit the glass hard finishing with four points, five rebounds, a steal and an assist. We like the young big as he plays with purpose and confidence.
