Reynoldsburg senior guard Jamiel Goliday erupted for 23 points on Monday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In the unofficial Battle for Livingston Avenue, Reynoldsburg had the upper hand over Bishop Hartley on Monday in a 59-52 road win. Reynoldsburg relied on 23 points from senior guard Jamiel Goliday, whose five three-point field goals led the Raiders in a convincing wire-to-wire victory.

Leading for the majority of the game, Reynoldsburg found itself in a tight first quarter battle. As Hartley applied terrific half court pressure, Reynoldsburg was able to stretch the Hawks defense. Goliday hit his first triple midway through the quarter, helping Reynoldsburg establish a 16-13 first quarter advantage.

The second quarter was where Reynoldsburg pulled away. While the 6-foot-7 big man matchup of Raiders senior Tre Williams and Hartley junior Payton Collins was the headliner going into the game, it was Reynoldsburg's guards who stole the show.

Collins was hot early on, knocking down two threes and scoring eight points in the first period. Hartley hung around for the majority of the second period despite its offensive struggles.

Holding a slight 20-18 lead with a little more than a minute to go in the second quarter, Hartley suffered back-to-back threes from Goliday and junior guard Ben Fort, whose final deep trey came right before the buzzer, sending Reynoldsburg into halftime with a 26-18 lead.

Coming out of halftime hot, Goliday dominated the third quarter. Scoring nine points in the period, Goliday had a personal run that put the game away. The senior guard knocked down a three, finished an alley oop lay up, snuck in for an offensive rebound put back, and secured another offensive rebound and kick out to senior guard Elijah Thurston for three in a self-made 10-4 run to put the Raiders ahead 38-27 with two minutes to go in the third.

Going into the final frame holding a 40-30 lead, Reynoldsburg got back-to-back triples from Goliday in the fourth quarter, the second putting the Raiders up 48-37 with 4:30 remaining. Coming one point shy of his career-high, Goliday hit the big shots necessary to stretch Hartley's defense and give Reynoldsburg a big boost in the backcourt.

Cruising to a 59-52 victory, Reynoldsburg enjoyed 48 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists from its backcourt of Goliday, Fort and Thurston. In a night where Williams struggled to get anything going offensively, finishing with six points, Reynoldsburg's backcourt trio picked up the slack for its talented big man.

Goliday played arguably the best game of his career, showing the full package of skills that he possesses at the point guard spot. A knockdown shooter who can really get it going, Goliday played a strong all-around game, limiting mistakes and leading Reynoldsburg against a quality opponent.

Fort added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists, executing greatly from the mid-range and getting to the rim for a few impressive finishes. An intriguing athlete at 6-foot-4, Fort is rangy, long and versatile, as he just seems to continue to get better.

Thurston had a terrific all-around performance, finishing with nine points and a game-high eight assists. The shifty Thurston was the beneficiary of a few deep three balls from Goliday to add to his impressive stat line.

Williams finished with six points and five rebounds in a tough cover against Collins.

For Hartley, senior wing Garrett Tipton was the only source of consistent offense in the second half. Finishing with 21 points, Tipton scored 16 of Hartley's 34 points after halftime, getting to the rim and finishing strongly inside. The Bellarmine signee knocked down four of Hartley's seven threes on the game.

Collins, in a difficult matchup with Williams, finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Two of the area's best rebounders, Collins and Williams seemed to neutralize one another on Monday, as no easy looks and easy rebounds were to be had.

Junior wing Morgan Safford struggled to shoot from the perimeter, finishing with 10 points, six of which coming at the free-throw line. Safford drove baseline and flushed down a hard one-hand slam late in the game to get into double digits.

Fresh off handing Pickerington North its first loss of 2018 on Friday, Reynoldsburg notches another impressive win away from home. The Raiders will look to round up OCC-Ohio play on a high note on Friday against Lancaster.

Hartley will look to get back to its winning ways on Friday against Linden-McKinley, a team that ended its season at home in the sectional finals last season in the upset of the tournament.
