COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In a primetime non-conference matchup between No. 4 (D3) Wellington and  No. 5 (D2) Bishop Hartley on Monday, the Hawks and Jaguars went toe-to-toe in an overtime thriller.

Hartley would take control in the final period in a matchup that came down to the wire. Relying on junior post Payton Collins and senior guard Garrett Tipton, Hartley improved to 4-0 on the season, while Wellington loses its third-straight game.

In a tight game all the way throughout, Hartley would lead by a single point at the end of the first two quarters. Wellington would have the advantage in the third, heading into the final frame with a 47-46 lead.

In a fourth quarter that went back and forth, Hartley rallied from a three-point deficit, as Tipton knocked down three-straight free throws to tie the game at 61 with 1:29 to go. Hartley would control the ball for the remaining minute and a half, as a potential game-winning three from Tipton missed left.

In overtime, Hartley would take immediate control, as two more free throws from Tipton gave the Hawks the lead for good. Wellington's lone field goal in the overtime period came from freshman guard Marcus Stewart, who buried a three to cut the lead to one with just over two minutes to go.

However, when Wellington seemed to gain momentum, Tipton answered, as a driving score from the Bellarmine signee put the Hartley lead back to three points. Hartley would grind out the final two minutes, notching its best win of the season thus far.

For Hartley, Collins commanded the post, finishing with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-7 junior rebounded at an extremely high level and was also able to stretch the floor, knocking down three triples.

Tipton finished with 18 points and a game-high eight assists, making plays with and without the ball for the Hawks. Senior guards Mac Wieging and Daniel Trainer had solid outings, adding nine and eight points respectively. Senior guard Major Lowe added seven points, while junior guard Morgan Safford, who battled foul trouble all game long, finished with five points.

For Wellington, senior guard and Air Force signee Solomon Pierre-Louis led the way with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals. Pierre-Louis had his best all-around game of the season, playing excellent defense on the highly talented Stafford, holding him to a season low. Pierre-Louis made some difficult shots and showed a ton of ability to put the ball in the bucket in multiple ways.

Stewart was excellent off the bench, adding 14 points and showing a strong ability to shoot the ball from range. Junior point guard Dallas Patrick finished with 10 points, while seniors Bob Faller, John Faller and Noah Berry combined for 25 points.

For Hartley, the Hawks picked up an important win over a tough Wellington team that should be one of the area's best in Division III. The Hawks return to the floor on Friday at home vs. No. 3 (D3) Bishop Ready.

For Wellington, the Jaguars lose its third-straight game vs. a top five ranked opponent. Falling to 1-3, the Jaguars will look to get back on track at home on Friday vs. Grove City Christian.
