A look at how the top college hoopers from Columbus are performing

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- While high school basketball is off to a roaring start in Central Ohio, we have had our hands full covering the top prep talent across the area. However, we have not lost sight of this area's top alums at the Division I level.

As most college teams have played at least 10 games up to this point, we wanted to take a look at how the area's top alums are doing. So far this year, 27 players have logged significant minutes and played meaningful roles for their teams.

Seth Towns goes for 25 at Kentucky

Scoring more than 2,000 points in his storied high school career, Northland's Seth Towns has not slowed down one bit since arriving at Harvard in the fall of 2016. After a productive freshman season in which Towns was one of the top newcomers in the Ivy League, the 6-foot-7 wing has continued his high volume scoring production in 2017-18.

Towns had his biggest breakout moment up to this point in his college career last Saturday in a road matchup at No. 7 Kentucky. Shooting 6-of-7 from three and scoring 25 points, Towns made his presence felt against the powerhouse Wildcats. Take a look at Towns' performance below.

Matt Moyer shines on primetime against UConn

After a rough start to his redshirt freshman season at Syracuse, Matt Moyer had a breakthrough moment on Tuesday against UConn. Breaking out for a career-high 18 points, Moyer punished the Huskies on the offensive glass all night long.

Moyer played a season-high 36 minutes in the game, converting on 7-of-9 attempts from the floor, including his first three point make of the year. A performance like that will do a ton for Moyer's confidence going forward, as the former Gahanna standout showed just what type of player he can be in an important win against UConn.

Moyer even made SportsCenter's list of top plays with this monster put-back dunk below.

Nick Ward continues high productivity in limited minutes

Nick Ward was a Per-40 minute wonder last season as a freshman, putting up 28 points and 13.1 rebounds per game during that span. Ward is proving that last season was no fluke, as he has been even better, while playing less minutes, as Ward is putting up 31 points and 14.2 rebounds per 40 minutes during his sophomore campaign.

Ward was up to his old tricks once again on Sunday in a win over Nebraska, going for 22 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes. Ward has been far and away the most efficient player from the area the last two seasons, as Ward's player efficiency rating of 36.7 is more than 13 points higher than the second most efficient player (Kaleb Wesson).

Kaleb Wesson earns B1G Freshman of the Week honors

We had very little doubt that Kaleb Wesson would make an immediate impact from the opening jump at Ohio State. Wesson is proving that he had little doubt either, as the Westerville South alum took home B1G Freshman of the Week honors last week.

In three games against all high-major competition, Wesson averaged 14.3 points per game, including a career-high 19 points in a statement win on the road at Wisconsin. Per 100 possessions, Wesson is producing 132.9 points, which is tops among all area players at the D1 level.

Khalil Iverson's 16 points leads Wisconsin past Penn State

Khalil Iverson has enjoyed a fairly strong junior season, improving in every statistical category from the last two years. While this year has had plenty of ups and downs for the Delaware Hayes product, Iverson had one of his best moments of the year on Tuesday in a win over Penn State.

Iverson was one point shy of his career-high, going for 16 points on a 7-of-8 shooting performance. Iverson also added five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. A lockdown perimeter defender, Iverson will need to continue to be productive offensively in order for Wisconsin to compete at its true potential.

Let's now take a look at the top players in each statistical category so far this season.
