Northland traveled to Gahanna on Wednesday for an entertaining scrimmage

GAHANNA, Ohio -- Back in the Gahanna gym for the first time in nearly a year, 270 Hoops took in a scrimmage between the Lions and crosstown rival Northland. As the two programs share a storied history of big-time matchups over the years, Wednesday was a nice showcase for the future of both programs.

Playing four 20 minute periods, Wednesday's scrimmage was fast-paced and high scoring, as the teams combined for more than 200 points. Each team won two periods a piece, with Gahanna winning out at 119-108.

Elijah Thomas (6'1 SG / Gahanna / 2019): Thomas put on a brilliant scoring display, going for 27 points on seven three-point field goals. Thomas made Northland pay whenever he had space, as he could play a similar role to Kevin Smith a few years back for Gahanna. Look for Thomas to have a big junior year as this Gahanna team has plenty of perimeter threats.

Josh Corbin (6'3 SG / Gahanna / 2019): There are not many guys who can get hot in a hurry quite like Corbin. While Corbin would finish with 24 points, 15 of those came in the second period alone to help Gahanna outscore Northland 37-26. A deadly perimeter shooter with good length, Corbin finished with 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Look for Corbin to be one of the top scorers in the OCC-Ohio.

Mike Reeves (6'8 PF / Gahanna  2018): Reeves is a player that just continues to improve each time out as Wednesday was a good showing for him against a lengthy and athletic Northland team. Reeves showcased his quality hands and improving finishing ability, totaling 15 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks on the night. Reeves is without an offer right now, but could be a quality look for Division II programs needing size and skill.

Chase Rankin (6'2 PG / Gahanna / 2018): One day after signing to Division II Purdue Northwest, Rankin had a strong outing, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Rankin has great quickness, is a nearly elite-level passer and underrated scorer. Look for Rankin to control the tempo for Gahanna all winter as this team will have a chance to win a lot of games this season due to its senior floor general.

Nate Ward (6'6 SF / Gahanna / 2018) had a strong outing, finishing with six points, seven rebounds and five assists. Ward has intriguing length and athleticism to a frame that he will be able to put weight on without losing quickness. Cameron Carlisle (6'3 SF / Gahanna / 2018) was terrific off the bench, playing a physical brand of ball to finish with nine points and six rebounds. The point guard of the future for Gahanna, Nate Staib (5'10 / 2020) looked good off the bench, finishing with eight points, as he knocked down two threes and handled pressure without turning it over.

Northland junior guard Will Mfum

Will Mfum (6'2 PG / Northland / 2019): If you can find another player who plays with a bigger chip on their shoulder than Mfum, then I would like to see them. Mfum is one of the most intense players in the area, as he applied pressure on both ends for 80 minutes, finishing with 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists. An elite-level athlete, Mfum is expanding his offensive game, as he knocked down four threes and was able to get off any shot off the dribble that he wanted. As Mfum becomes more comfortable and continues to learn the game, he will only continue to get better.

DiShon Daniels (6'6 SF / Northland / 2018): Back in the place where he played middle school ball, Daniels had a solid outing, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds and four emphatic blocks. Daniels is one of the most impressive athletes in the area, as he is a threat to punish shots off the backboard any time he is trailing in transition. Daniels has worked hard this offseason to become a more polished offensive player and it has clearly paid off. Daniels is the x-factor for this Vikings team, as his length and athleticism can pay dividends on both ends of the floor.

Jejuan Weatherspoon (6'3 SG / Northland / 2018): Weatherspoon had a strong outing, finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds and five steals. An athletic combo guard who can put the ball in the bucket, Weatherspoon did that in bunches on Wednesday. Weatherspoon's ability to hit the three ball will stretch the floor and open up driving lanes for the Vikings' top guards.

Mark Lee (6'2 SF / Northland / 2019): Lee had a very strong outing in our first viewing of him, finishing with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals as a starter. Lee has a thick frame and is a physical player on both ends. Look for Lee to figure as Northland's glue guy this season, as he is able to defend both on the perimeter and in the post.

N'Keeley Elmore (5'10 PG / Northland / 2019) had a strong showing, finishing with 12 points and seven assists. Gabe Towns (6'8 PF / Northland / 2018) is back after a brief hiatus from basketball and finished with seven points and five rebounds. A player to keep an eye on going forward for Northland is Isaiah Ingle (6'7 PF / 2020). Ingle has great length and a frame that looks to keep expanding, as he could become quite the player if he continues to work on his overall game.
