Dane Goodwin ended a long commitment to Ohio State on Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- First reported by 270 Hoops on Wednesday, Upper Arlington shooting guard Dane Goodwin opened his recruitment, decommitting from Ohio State.

After a nearly three-year commitment to the Buckeyes that began before Goodwin ever put on an Upper Arlington jersey, the 6-foot-5 shooter opened up his recruitment just days after the hire of new Ohio State head basketball coach Chris Holtmann.

Recruited by the former staff at Ohio State, Goodwin had no connections to the current staff, as the class of 2018 prospect had committed to the Buckeyes before really any other programs could come into the picture.

A source tells 270 Hoops that Notre Dame and Villanova have both offered Goodwin, as the Upper Arlington product has visited both programs in the last few days.

You can expect other regional programs in the Big East, Big 10, ACC and Big 12 to enter the picture. A sleeper program could be Dayton, where Goodwin's father played college basketball and was a teammate of new head coach Anthony Grant.

The interesting note with Villanova is that Jay Wright and his staff recruited Goodwin in the fall of 2014 before his commitment to Ohio State. Notre Dame has reportedly put Goodwin high upon their list of prospects at the shooting guard position, as he fits the mold of what Mike Brey has recruited over the years.

Goodwin is coming off a junior season in which he averaged nearly 30 points per game, leading Upper Arlington to its second-straight district title while scoring more points than any player in the area.

Stay tuned to 270 Hoops for more information surrounding Goodwin's newfound wide-open recruitment.
