The second-ranked player in Columbus's 2017 class will head to Chapel Hill

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After a strong fall that saw his stock rise quickly, Pickerington Central big man Sterling Manley has announced his verbal commitment to North Carolina on Sunday. The Tigers center pledged after an official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend.

“I also appreciate all the college coaches that saw something in me and gave me the opportunitiy to go and play at their university, but me and my family have decided that the University of North Carolina will be the best fit for me!" Manley said in a tweet on Sunday.

The Tar Heels beat out Xavier,  Purdue, and West Virginia for the services of the 6-foot-10 center. North Carolina was the latest in the process, but pushed the hardest when it mattered most.

Manley will get to return from day one for the Tigers this year, after suffering a gruesome leg injury in the regular season finale at Gahanna last year.

"[The injury] has taught me a lot," Manley said to our own Zach Fleer in August. "It really made me realize how much you miss something once it is gone and how it is easy to take something for granted. It has made me humble, but hungry."
